Cake! Cake! I Just Love Cake! | Bakerdays Personalised Father’s Day Lemon Drizzle Letterbox Cake

I absolutely love relaxing with a cup of Tea and a nice slice of Cake. That’s why when the guys over at Bakerdays very kindly asked me if I would like to receive one of their Personalised Letterbox Cakes to review, I of course said yes. Well I had a slice of it with a nice cup of Tea the other day, and I thought that I would tell you what I thought of it.

here’s what Bakerdays say about themselves.

Bakerdays is situated on the edge of Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire. We safely deliver great celebration and gift Cakes all over the UK.

The folks at Bakerdays are not just great bakers and innovators. We have developed a truly versatile colour and decorating process to create beautiful Cakes that actually taste just as good as if you made them yourself.

The business was founded by Andrea Guzyova and greeting card entrepreneur Alan Hawkes, whose passion for Cakes (mainly eating them) is only exceeded by a knack of creating the perfect Cake design for every occasion.

introducing the letterbox Cake.

It’s a small celebration Cake for just one or two people. It may be small but it’s thoughtful and personalised. It’s postable and yes it actually does fit through a letterbox. It’s just the perfect gift to give or to send.

It’s ordering process.

I really liked how easy it was to order, as once I had finally decided on what design I wanted, had chosen between traditional Victoria Sponge, Fruit Cake, Chocolate Chip, Red Velvet, Marble Cake, Lemon Drizzle, Gluten Free or Dairy Free, had filled out the order form and had paid, I received a really nice email from one of the Bakerdays team all about my Cake design and how I wanted it to look. Then after a couple of weeks of waiting, my Cake finally dropped through my Letterbox.

It’s size.

I was actually really impressed with it’s size, as with it being called a Letterbox Cake I was kind of expecting it to be a little bit on the small side. But it was actually really big, and was more or less the size of an ordinary Cake that you would pick up from your local supermarket in diameter and about an inch thick in height.

Its design.

I absolutely loved it’s design, as after a couple of emails discussing how I wanted my Cake to look, it arrived with a beautiful Black and White Penguin scene on it with Father’s Day written across it in Red icing that I thought looked beautiful as well as being exactly what I asked for.

It’s taste.

I really liked it’s taste, as I thought that it tasted really rich, creamy and buttery. But even though it was called a Lemon Drizzle Cake, I did think that it only slightly tasted of Lemon rather than tasting of really strong and zesty sour Lemons like a Lemon Drizzle Cake usually does. I also really liked it’s Icing, as even though it was incredibly thick, I thought that it tasted really sweet and went perfectly with the slight bitterness of the Lemon.

It’s texture.

I really liked it’s texture, as I thought that it felt extremely spongy yet also light and airy, and was the perfect accompaniment to a nice cup of Tea.

It’s packaging.

I really liked it’s packaging, as it came in a really substantial yet secure Cake Tin that I thought looked beautiful as well as making sure that the Cake arrived as fresh as when it was made. I also really liked that the Cake Tin came in a really thick Cardboard box, as it meant that the Tin didn’t get damaged whilst it was on it’s way to me.

My overall thoughts.

Overall I would have to rate the Bakerdays Personalised Father’s Day Lemon Drizzle Letterbox Cake an eight point five out of ten. I really liked how easy it was to order, it’s size, it’s design, it’s gorgeous zesty Lemon taste, it’s extremely spongy yet light and airy texture, and it’s packaging. But I would have loved it to have tasted a little bit more of Lemon and for it to have arrived a little bit sooner as I did think that it took a little while for it to finally arrive.
