A couple of weeks ago I was very kindly invited down to the Smoke BBQ Leeds to come and try some of their delicious food. after drooling over their menu online, I quickly said yes, and after stuffing myself full of food, I thought I would tell you all about it.
The idea for Smoke BBQ first started in 2011, and after two years of development, they finally opened their first restaurant in Sheffield, and after great success they launched another in Glasgow, and in October of 2015 they opened another fantastic restaurant in Leeds.
Smoke BBQ take the best meat Yorkshire has to offer, add a touch of spice, get a heap of wood, and produce some of the tastiest barbecue around.
I went with Jamie and his really good friend Michelle, and after wondering around for a little while, we finally found their beautiful restaurant. It turns out it was only a few doors down from where we were looking in the Merrion Centre, and after walking into their beautiful restaurant, we were kindly greeted by a really friendly staff member who took our names and showed us to our table.
I loved the whole look and feel of the restaurant. It had a very traditional American barbecue look with tons of exposed brickwork and metal. It had a very laid back vibe and it’s somewhere you could just come and relax.
After a couple of minutes of us just relaxing and taking in the smell of barbecue, a very nice staff menber came and asked us if we would like some drinks. There were a few different Beers and Ales to choose from but I wasn’t drinking so I went for a Dandelion and Burdock. I haven’t had a Dandelion and Burdock in years, I actually thought they had stopped making them haha. I absolutely loved the shape and feel of the glass my drink came in. It felt incredibly high class.
After a good twenty minutes of us chatting, and just generally chilling, all the wonderful food started arriving.
The dish that we were served was the Smoke Sharing Platter which came with Pulled Pork, Baby Back Ribs, Barbecued Turkey Leg, Chicken Thighs, House Hot Link Sausage, Jalapeño Cornbread Muffin, and Coleslaw.
I was given a knife and fork to eat all this amazing food with, but I soon realised that it was a very futile effort.
The Pulled Pork was delicious, and barely needed chewing. It was so beautifully cooked that I could have eaten it all night.
The Baby Back Ribs were anything but baby, they were freaking massive, and full of meat. It felt like a challenge just to finish one.
The Barbecued Turkey Leg was extremely tasty. I’m not usually a big fan of Turkey as it can get incredibly dry and flavourless, but Smoke BBQ cooked it to perfection and it definitely changed my mind about Turkey.
The Chicken Thighs were so succulent and moist, and I only found one tiny bone in the entire thigh, which was an amazing job. It’s the bones that make me not want to eat Chicken.
The Hot House Link Sausage was my least favourite of the whole platter. I don’t know, it just had an extremely strange taste to me.
The Jalapeño Cornbread Muffin was interesting. It was light and fluffy and once I had swallowed it, it had the strongest spiciest afterkick.
The Coleslaw was incredible and was so creamy. It tasted like it was home made, I hate it when people mess with the good old traditional recipe. Coleslaq shouldn’t be messed around with, it’s perfect as it is.
After stuffing myself with so much food that I wondered if I could still move, it was time for even more food in the form of a trio of Desserts, which were Peanut Butter Cheesecake, a Brownie with Chocolate Sauce, and Smores.
I didn’t have any of the Peanut Butter Cheesecake as I have an aversion of Peanut Butter, god knows why people like it so much, urgh it’s disgusting.
The Brownie with Chocolate Sauce was incredibly chocolatey and so indulgent.
The Smores had to be my favourite dessert. The cookie and Caramel sauce was so nice that I asked anyone if there was more. Oh it was so good, i’m definitely thinking of going back just for more Smores.
After stuffing myself with so much food that I was sure I couldn’t move, it was time to go, so we said our goodbyes and on the way out we were handed a little goodie bag full of their signature popcorn and barbecue sauce. Oh my god their barbecue sauce is so good. I’ve been putting it on everything it’s that nice.
I had an amazing time at Smoke BBQ Leeds and if you’re looking for incredible barbecue food then I highly recommend you check them out.
