As you probably already know, I absolutely love relaxing with a good face mask, especially with some of the ones from Lush, and when I got talking to one of the wonderful staff at my local Lush store a couple of weeks ago, they very kindly asked me if I would like to try out a little of their Mask Of Magnaminty. I of course said yes, as I had never tried the Mask Of Magnaminty before, and after a good five minutes of us both talking and her showing me the mask, I obviously had to buy some. Well, i’ve been using it for quite a while now, and I thought that I would tell you what I thought of it.
Here’s what Lush say about theMask Of Magnaminty.
A minty, multi-purposed mask with a mixture of gentle yet effective ingredients ,including Honey and Kaolin, to help you maintain your magnificent skin.
Easily smoothed over the skin, this mask is made with Peppermint oil to stimulate, Marigold oil and Chlorophyllin to treat, and Evening Primrose seeds and Aduki Beans to gently exfoliate as you wash it away. There’s also mineral rich Kaolin to nourish, Honey for its antibacterial properties, and just the right amount of Peppermint oil to stimulate the blood cells under the surface of your skin, to leave your skin looking bright and refreshed.
This marvellous mixture also comes in a self preserving form, which means it keeps itself clean without the help of synthetic preservatives, and choosing between the two is simply a matter of preference. The original formula dries more thoroughly when applied, while the self preserved version has a higher Honey content so is thicker and remains wet.
As it’s name suggests, this is a face mask that absolutely reeks of Mint, and even though i’m not normally a massive fan of Mint, I did actually quite like this, as it smelt more like a tub of Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream rather than the overpowering toothpaste Mint that I was expecting it to smell like. It also had quite a sweet undertone, which i’m guessing came from the Honey.
I found the texture of the Mask Of Magnaminty quite strange when I first applied it to my skin, as the Evening Primrose Seeds and the Aduki Beans made it feel more like a scrub than a mask, but after a minute or two the Evening Primrose Seeds and Aduki Beans started to merge into the rich creamy texture of the mask, and only came alive again once I started to remove the mask from my face. This also meant that as well as my skin getting a rich creamy facial treatment, because of the Evening Primrose Seeds and the Aduki Beans, my face also benefitted from a good scrub.
Does it actually set?
Another thing that I liked about the Mask Of Magnaminty was that it actually set rather than stayed wet while I was using it, as most of the face masks that I have tried from Lush never actually set whilst I used them, but this did. I also found that even though it contained the Evening Primrose Seeds and the Aduki Beans, it was really easy to remove from my skin, as all it took was a couple of wipes with a decently hot cloth.
I really loved the results that I got from Mask Of Magnaminty, as It left my face feeling squeaky clean, moisturised, plump, and most importantly for me, matte. I think that the reason that it felt squeaky clean was because of the exfoliating properties of the Evening Primrose Seeds and the Aduki Beans, and the antibacterial properties of the Honey, and I think that the reason that it also felt moisturised and plump was because of the Kaolin. I also think that the reason that my skin also felt matte was because of all the Peppermint oil, as i’ve found that Peppermint oil can be quite mattifying on the skin.
My final thoughts.
Overall I would have to rate the Lush Mask Of Magnaminty, a ten out of ten, as I absolutely loved everything about it, from it’s scent, to it’s texture, the fact that it actually set, and even the results it gave to my skin. The only thing I didn’t like was that it did feel a little strange on my skin at first, but once I had gotten over the sensation of that, the fact that it also gave my face a good scrubbing, made me love it even more.
