Eating My Way Through Malaysia | Nyonya Recipe Shop | Gifted

I’m always looking for Snacks that are Gluten Free and Vegan for when people visit as you never know what someone’s dietary requirements are like. That’s why when the guys over at Nyonya Recipe Shop very kindly asked me if I would like to try some of their delicious Malaysian Snacks that are all either Gluten Free or Vegan, I of course said yes. Well they very kindly sent me a Tub of their Peanut Cookies. a Bag of their Chocolate Chip & Nut Cookies, a Tub of their Kuih Bangkit Cookies, and a Packet of their Dragon Balls, and I thought that I would tell you what I thought of them.

Here’s what Nyonya Recipe Shop say about all four delicious Snacks.

The Nyonya Recipe Shop Peanut Cookies.

Made to a traditional Malaysian recipe from pure ingredients, they are a simple and tasty Peanut Cookie that are also kind to the environment, free from Animal products, and are lovingly handmade for you.

The Nyonya Recipe Shop Chocolate Chip & Nut Cookies.

Made to a traditional Malaysian recipe from pure ingredients and similar  to our Chocolate Chip Cookies, these morish Chocolate Chip Cookies are made even more delicious with added Nuts. The Nuts give them extra crunch and flavour, as the saying goes, you can’t stop at just one.

The Nyonya Recipe Shop Kuih Bangkit Cookies.

Made to a traditional Malaysian recipe from pure ingredients, they are a simple and tasty Kuih Bangkit Cookie made with Tapioca that are also kind to the environment, free from Animal products, and are made lovingly for you.

The Nyonya Recipe Shop Dragon Balls.

Our Dragon Balls are a delicious Plant based Snack made from Mung Beans hand wrapped in flaky Chinese style Pastry. The filling is sweet yet salty, making it a delicious and unique taste sensation.

Their taste.

I really liked their taste, as even though i’m not usually a massive fan of Peanuts, I thought that they had a delicious sweet and nutty yet ever so slightly biscuity Peanut taste to them that went really well with a nice Cup of Tea.

Their texture.

I really liked their texture, as even though they were called a Cookie, I thought that they were really crumbly, and were more like a really crumbly Biscuit rather than a hard and crunchy Cookie.

Their packaging.

I really liked their packaging, as these came in a really thick Plastic Tub with a clickable Lid that kept them really fresh.

Their taste.

I really liked their taste, as even though it said that they contained Nuts, I couldn’t really taste any of them and could only taste a really sweet and morish yet ever so slightly salty Chocolate Cookie that kind of reminded me of a Chocolate version of the Nice Biscuits that I used to eat as a Child.

Their texture.

I really liked their texture, as even though they were called a Cookie, I thought that they were really crunchy yet ever so slightly crumbly, and were more like a thin and crunchy Biscuit rather than a thick and crunchy Cookie. I also really liked that they didn’t instantly dissolve when I dunked them in a Cup of Tea.

Their packaging.

I really liked their packaging, as these came in a massive resealable Plastic Bag that kept them really fresh.

Some small star shaped light golden brown cookies in front of a short rectangular clear Plastic Tub with a yellow label that has nyonya recipe shop kuih bangkit cookies written in bold red writing on it on a light wooden table, on a white background.

Their taste.

I wasn’t really a massive fan of their taste, as even though they contained Tapioca which I usually don’t mind, I thought that they had a very strange sweet and nutty taste to them that kind of reminded me of a week old Rusk Biscuit.

Their texture.

I wasn’t really a massive fan of their texture, as even though they were called a Cookie, I thought that they were really crunchy and powdery, and were more like a really crunchy and powdery Palma Violet Sweet rather than a thick and crunchy Cookie..

Their packaging.

I really liked their packaging, as these came in a really thick Plastic Tub with a clickable Lid that kept them really fresh.

Their taste.

I really liked their taste, as I thought that the Pastry had a very sweet and buttery taste to it that kind of reminded me of a sweeter version of the Pastry that’s used in a Sausage Roll, and that the centre had a very sweet and nutty taste to it that went brilliantly with a nice Cup of Tea.

Their texture.

I really liked their texture, as even though they were called a Pastry, I thought that they were incredibly flaky and crunchy, and were more like a flaky and crunchy soft Cookie rather than a soft and gooey Pastry.

Their cooking time.

It said that you were supposed to cook them for between 12 and 15 minutes at 180ºC, but I found that cooking them for 13 minutes was the perfect amount of time, as when I cooked them for 12 minutes they weren’t quite cooked enough and when I cooked them for 15 minutes they were far too crispy.

Their packaging.

I really liked their packaging, as these came in a thin but really secure Plastic Wrapper that kept them really fresh until I was ready to cook them.

My overall thoughts.

Overall I would have to rate the Nyonya Recipe Shop Peanut Cookies an eight out of ten, the Nyonya Recipe Shop Chocolate Chip & Nut Cookies a nine point five out of ten, the Nyonya Recipe Shop Kuih Bangkit Cookies a six point five out of tenn, and the Nyonya Recipe Shop Dragon Balls a nine out of ten. I really liked the Nyonya Recipe Shop Peanut Cookies, as I absolutely loved their sweet and nutty yet ever so slightly biscuity taste, their texture, and their packaging, but as i’m not a massive fan of Peanuts I think that they would probably go off before I finished an entire packet. I really liked the Nyonya Recipe Shop Chocolate Chip & Nut Cookies, as I absolutely loved their sweet and morish yet ever so slightly salty chocolatey taste, their texture, and their packaging, but I just wish that they were a little bit bigger. I unfortunately really didn’t like the Nyonya Recipe Shop Kuih Bangkit Cookies, as I just wasn’t a massive fan of their strange sweet and nutty taste, or their incredibly crunchy and powdery texture. I really liked the Nyonya Recipe Shop Dragon Balls, as I absolutely loved their sweet and buttery yet ever so slightly nutty taste, their texture, their cooking time, and their packaging, but I just wish that they were a little bit bigger.
