Tea Tastes Terrific | True Tea Club February 2017

As you probably already know, I absolutely love a good cup of Tea, and love discovering new and interesting flavours even more. That’s why when the guys over at True Tea Club, very kindly asked me if I would like to try one of their Tea subscription boxes, I of course said yes. Well i’ve been drinking my way through it for a little while now, and I thought that I would tell you what I thought of it.

For those who don’t know, True Tea Club is a monthly Tea subscription box that contains four pouches of hand picked fresh loose leafed Tea, ranging from White, Green, Black, Rooibos, Oolong, Pu-erhh, and herbal infusions, that starts from just £10 a month.

Here’s what True Tea Club say about themselves.

True Tea Club was founded in York, North Yorkshire, to source and supply some of the world’s best Teas from around the globe.

We are focused on providing quality Tea’s from around the globe to our customers on a daily basis, and pride ourselves on having one of the largest selections of Tea on the market.

Even with our extensive list of loose leafed Tea’s, we are constantly working to find the most unique and special flavours so that we can continue to provide one of the largest selections of Tea anywhere.

So that we can share our passion of Tea with everyone else, we created a subscription box which is sent out monthly, and contains some of the most fascinating and unique Tea’s found on the market.

I was very kindly sent the True Tea Club February 2017 box, which contained a pouch of Mighty Mango Green Tea, a pouch of Earl Grey Rebel Loose Leafed Tea, a pouch of Vanilla Cupcake Rooibos Loose Leafed Tea, and a pouch of Rainbow Chaser Peppermint Tea.

Here’s what True Tea Club say about all four teas.

Mighty Mango Green Tea… Mellow like a Californian beach, the sencha base is surrounded by bright Sunflower Blossoms which relaxes in harmony with the fruity Mango flavour.

Earl Grey Rebel Loose Leaf Tea… A rebel in it’s own right. This loose Tea provides a rich taste of Assam leaves mixed with Bergamot and orange flavouring.

Vanilla Cupcake Rooibos Loose Leafed Tea… An exotic and smooth Rooibos that provides a velvet mouth feel mixed with a dash of Banana Chips to amplify this infusion into a heavenly status.

Rainbow Chaser Peppermint Tea… A magical concoction of Apple pieces, Blackberry leaves, Peppermint, and Orange peel.

What I thought of the box itself.

The box itself was just a generic brown letterbox sized cardboard box that had True Tea Club emblazoned on the top of it, but it was the contents within that impressed me, because as well as containing four small brown resealable pouches of Tea, the box also included a leaflet all about True Tea Club, one of their business cards, and a card explaining how long I should brew each Tea for. The only thing that I didn’t like was that the pouches of Tea all came in non-descriptive brown pouches, so I couldn’t tell which one was which without asking Jamie.

It’s brewing time.

It said that you were supposed to brew this for between ten and twenty seconds, which was the perfect time because brewing it for any longer made it taste extremely sour and bitter.

It’s taste.

I absolutely loved this because it just tasted like hot Mango juice. I couldn’t really taste the Sunflower Blossom though, but I did however think that it added a nice overall sweetness to the Mango. I also couldn’t really taste the Green Tea, which I think shows just how bright and fruity the Mango in this actually was.

It’s brewing time.

It said that you were supposed to brew this for between two and three minutes, but I found that brewing it for two minutes left it tasting rather week, and brewing it for three minutes left it tasting quite bitter. This meant that I had to try and brew it for around two and a half minutes to get the best taste out of this, which was actually quite tricky.

It’s taste.

I was expecting this to have quite an overwhelming taste of Lemon because that was all i could smell when I opened it’s pouch, but this actually tasted really nice, and just tasted like I had added a squeeze of Lemon to my morning cup of Tea. I unfortunately couldn’t taste the Bergamot though, but I think that it just made everything that was in this taste much sweeter and stronger.

It said that you were supposed to brew this for between three and five minutes, which I thought was perfect as I found that brewing it for any less than three minutes left it tasting extremely weak.

It’s taste.

I was expecting this to taste incredibly sweet, as most of the Vanilla teas that I have tried in the past have been so, but this wasn’t at all, and tasted more smokey than sweet. I could definitely taste the Vanilla, but I could also taste something really smokey underneath it, which I thought gave something that sounded quite boring, a rather interesting taste

It’s brewing time.

It said that you were supposed to brew this for between five and ten minutes, which seemed like a long time to brew a cup of tea to me, but I found that brewing it for about seven minutes gave the perfect taste, as five minutes made it taste too weak, and ten minutes made it taste extremely bitter.

It’s taste.

Even though that this contained quite a lot of different ingredients, other than the Peppermint I couldn’t really taste them. Don’t get me wrong, the Peppermint wasn’t overpowering in the least, it was actually really mild, but because this contained so many different ingredients, they all just blended together to create a really sweet cup of Tea with a very mild top note of Peppermint.

My overall thoughts.

Overall I would have to rate the True Tea Club February 2017 box an eight point five out of ten. I loved everything about this, from it’s selection of Tea’s, to the fact that they included a helpful card to tell me how long I should brew each Tea for, but if they had just made the pouches a little more distinctive,, I would have probably given the box a full ten out of ten.

I was sent the True Tea Club February 2017 box to review, but all thoughts, opinions, and general ramblings are my own.
