The Alpha Of Antioxidants | The Ordinary Alpha Lipoic Acid 5%

With all of the cold Weather that we’ve been having lately, i’ve noticed that my Skin has become really dry, rough and dull. That’s why when I had heard that The Ordinary had released a Alpha Lipoic Acid 5% that claims to visibly improve the texture and tone of your Skin, I obviously had to check it out. Well i’ve been using it for a little while now, and I thought that I would tell you what I thought of it.

A short cylindrical clear glass bottle full of some dark brown liquid with a white pipette lid and a white label that has The Ordinary Alpha Lipoic Acid 5% written in bold black writing on it, on a white background.

Here’s what The Ordinary say about their Alpha Lipoic Acid 5%.

Alpha Lipoic Acid is a highly potent Antioxidant and can restore a renewed Skin appearance, improving visible Skin texture and tone when applied topically. This formulation uses an exceptionally high 5% concentration of high-purity Alpha Lipoic Acid.

Notes :

1. Alpha Lipoic Acid is highly sensitive to Sunlight. Please do not expose to direct Sunlight. Application is recommended at nighttime only.

2. Alpha Lipoic Acid is less stable in formulations that contain Water and use of formulations of Alpha Lipoic Acid containing Water is highly discouraged. This formulation is water-free and may feel slightly “oily” for a few seconds after application.

3. This formulation contains an extremely high concentration of Alpha Lipoic Acid. Daily use is not recommended since such a high frequency of use can cause Skin sensitivity. Please follow suggested use frequency.

  • Water Free.
  • Alcohol Free.
  • Oil Free.
  • Silicone Free.
  • Nut Free.
  • Vegan.
  • Gluten Free.
  • Cruelty Free.

It’s scent.

I wasn’t really a massive fan of it’s scent, as even though it contained Propanediol Thioctic Acid, I thought that it had a very strange deep and musky yet ever so slightly bitter chemical scent to it that kind of reminded me of the smell of burning Rubber.

It’s consistency.

I really liked it’s consistency, as even though it was called an Antioxidant Serum, I thought that it felt incredibly thick and oily, and was more like an incredibly thick and oily Facial Oil rather than a thin and oily yet ever so slightly watery Antioxidant Serum.

What it did when I used it.

I really liked what this did when I used it, as once I had started to massage a little bit of it into my Skin, it turned from an incredibly thick and oily Facial Oil into a thin and oily yet ever so slightly watery Antioxidant Serum that spread really easily across my Face. I however wasn’t really a massive fan of that it took quite a long time to eventually set though, but as I was using it at Night it wasn’t really that big of a deal.

It’s results.

I absolutely loved it’s results, as not only did this leave my Skin feeling incredibly silky soft, smooth, bouncy and intensely moisturised, but it also left it looking much brighter and healthier for at least an entire day after I had used it.

It’s packaging.

I really liked it’s packaging, as this came in a short cylindrical Glass Bottle with a Rubber Pipette Lid that looked beautiful sat on my Beauty Shelves.

My overall thoughts.

Overall I would have to rate The Ordinary Alpha Lipoic Acid 5% a six point five out of ten. I absolutely loved it’s incredibly thick and oily consistency, what it did when I used it, it’s results, and it’s packaging. But i’m sorry, something that i’m putting on my Skin shouldn’t smell that bad, even if it does say that it’s Fragrance Free.
