Sweet Like Chocolate | Whittard of Chelsea Marzipan Hot Chocolate

I absolutely love relaxing by the Fire with a nice Hot Chocolate when it’s cold outside. That’s why when I had heard that Whittard of Chelsea had released a range of three Hot Chocolates that include Cinnamon, Ginger, and Marzipan, I obviously had to pick up a Tin of the Marzipan Hot Chocolate. Well i’ve been drinking it for a little while now, and I thought that I would tell you what I thought of it.

A short cylindrical silver metal tin with black stripes and a black label that has Whittard of Chelsea Marzipan Hot Chocolate written in bold gold writing on it, on a white background.

Here’s what Whittard of Chelsea say about their Marzipan Hot Chocolate.

We love the sweet, nutty taste of marzipan, so naturally we couldn’t resist adding it to hot chocolate. For our Marzipan Hot Chocolate we’ve used a high proportion of Peruvian and West African cocoa, layering it with subtly sweet flavours of marzipan for a smooth, lusciously comforting creation that just might be better than cake.

It’s cooking instructions.

I really liked it’s cooking instructions, as it said to stir in two Teaspoons of Powder into a Mug of Milk or Water at 100ºC, which I thought was the perfect Temperature, as none of the Hot Chocolate Mixture stuck to the Spoon and it blended into the Milk or Water really easily.

It’s taste.

I wasn’t really a massive fan of it’s taste, as even though I thought that it was a delicious tasting Hot Chocolate, it tasted very strong and bitter and totally overpowered all of the nutty Marzipan notes. This meant that I couldn’t really taste any of the sweet and nutty Marzipan, which given that it was called a Marzipan Hot Chocolate was very disappointing.

It’s packaging.

I wasn’t really a massive fan of it’s packaging, as even though it came in a very secure Tin that meant that none of the Powder lost any of it’s freshness, I found it incredibly difficult to open and had to eventually use a Knife to get into it.

My overall thoughts.

Overall I would have to rate the Whittard of Chelsea Marzipan Hot Chocolate, a seven out of ten. I really liked it’s cooking instructions, it’s deep and bitter taste, and it’s packaging, but I would have preferred it to have tasted a lot more of Marzipan and for it’s packaging to have been a little bit easier to open.
