I absolutely love Christmas, especially because of all the Christmas candles that get released, and as always, Yankee Candle have released their festive collection, the Holiday Party collection, which includes four gorgeous scents, Festive Cocktail, Macaron Treats, All Is Bright, and Star Anise & Orange. Now, being the candle addict that I am, as soon as I heard that they had released the collection, I of course had to pop down to my local Love Aroma and pick something up. Well, as usual, I didn’t just pick up something, I picked up the entire collection, and after burning them for a little while now, I thought I would tell you what I thought of them.
Here’s what Yankee Candle say about each gorgeous festive fragrance.Festive Cocktail… Celebrate with a tart concoction spiked with mountain Berries and a sprig of fresh spun Pine. Festive Cocktail also contains top notes of Citrus, Cranberries, and Blackcurrants, heart notes of Pine, and base notes of Vanilla. Macaron Treats… The classic Parisian macaron is sweet and lighter than air, with notes of Vanilla, Almond, and of course Sugar. Macaron Treats also contains top notes of Raw Sugar, and Confectioner’s Sugar, heart notes of Cookie and Almond, and base notes of Vanilla. All Is Bright… A blend of sparkling Citrus scents drifting on warm musk. All Is Bright also contains top notes of Grapefruit and Orange, heart notes of Red Currants, and base notes of Sweet Musk. Star Anise & Orange… A juicy slice of fresh Orange cooled by sweet refreshing Anise. Star Anise & Orange also contains top notes of juicy Orange and Anise Mandarin, heart notes of Clove, and base notes of Sandalwood and Vanilla.
I really liked the Yankee Candle Festive Cocktail, as it kind of reminded me of sitting in a log cabin, drinking a glass of Mulled Wine, whilst people coming in ad out of the cabin bring the fresh Pine scented air in with them. I also thought that the Vanilla and Citrus notes added a little sweetness to the bitter Cranberries, Blackcurrants, and earthy Pine. I was kind of expecting it to be quite sour, but because of the citrus notes, it actually smelt rather sweet and fresh.
The scent throw of this was great, as I was expecting it to be one of those scents that I didn’t notice until I had gone out, and had came back into the room again, but this was actually pretty strong. It also filled the room with it’s fruity ,yet earthy scent within about twenty minutes, which I thought was fantastic. It didn’t fill the entire top level of my house like some other Yankee Candle have done, but it did fill my room with a nice strong scent.
It says that you’re supposed to get up to 180 hours of burn time out of this, but because I always kept my wick trimmed, I easily got at least 200 hours of fruity Pine goodness out of this.
I absolutely loved the Yankee Candle Macaron Treats, as it basically made my entire room smell like a chocolate biscuit, and who doesn’t want their room to smell like a chocolate biscuit? With it containing two different types of sugar, I was a little worried it would be incredibly sweet, which it was, but it wasn’t at all sickly sweet. I’m not usually a food scents kind of a guy, it’s mainly because they never smell like their description, but this did, and seriously made me crave a biscuit every time I lit it.
The scent throw of this was incredible, as it filled both my room, and the entire top level of my house, with it’s rich chocolate biscuit scent within about fifteen minutes, and left not only me, but my entire family, craving a chocolate biscuit.
It says that you’re supposed to get up to 180 hours of burn time out of this, but as I again kept my wick trimmed, I easily got at least 200 hours of gorgeous rich chocolate biscuit deliciousness out of this.
The Yankee Candle All Is Bright was nice, but it didn’t really remind me of Christmas. It did however remind me of a nice fruity cocktail, that also, at times strangely smelt of Peach, even though Peach wasn’t mentioned in the fragrance notes. I think they were trying to create a fresh fruity yet Christmas cocktail scent with this, which did work, but with it having so many different fruit scents in it, it wasn’t a Christmas scent. I think if they had released this as a Summer scent, and had maybe called it something like Summer Sunshine, I would have liked this a lot more.
The scent throw of this was a little disappointing, as it was one of those scents that I didn’t notice until I had gone out, and had came back into the room. It also took quite a long time to fill the room, which was quite annoying.
It says that you’re supposed to get up to 180 hours of burn time out of this, but because I again kept my wick trimmed, I easily got at least 200 hours of subtile fruity scent out of this.
The Yankee Candle Star Anise & Orange was incredibly invigorating , and was great to light in the morning when I needed something to get me going for the day. It was also great for when I needed a bit of a pick me up, as all of the citrus notes in this just made me happy. It did however kind of remind me of a sharper, less sweeter version of Honey Clementine from their Harvest Time collection.
The scent throw of this was extremely strong, and it made my room smell as if I had been cutting up a big bag of Oranges within about ten to fifteen minutes, which I thought was awesome.
It again says that you’re supposed to get up to 180 hours of burn time out of this, but because I kept my wick trimmed, I again easily got at least 200 hours of invigorating Orange goodness out of this.
Overall I would have to rate the Yankee Candle Festive Cocktail an eight out of ten, the Yankee Candle Macaron Treats a nine point five out of ten, the Yankee Candle All Is Bright a seven out of ten, and the Yankee Candle Star Anise & Orange a nine point five out of ten. I really liked the Yankee Candle Festive Cocktail, as it was the only one out of the entire collection that actually made me think, ahh that’s a Christmas scent. I absolutely loved the Yankee Candle Macaron Treats, as not only was it a great sweet food scent, that made me crave a biscuit, it actually may have converted me to buying more food scented candles. The Yankee Candle All Is Bright was ok, but I really think it would have suited another collection rather than the Christmas collection,. The Yankee Candle Star Anise & Orange had to be my favourite scent of the entire collection, as it was just so zesty and in your face, and was perfect to light when I was in a bit of a bad mood. I really enjoyed the range as a whole, but it unfortunately didn’t make me scream Christmas.
