For anyone who doesn’t know, I have recently started the application process for a Guide Dog. I’ll be starting a whole new series called Guide Dogs Tails, see what I did there, so you can follow me along on the journey of at some point, being fully qualified.
It costs around £50,000 to raise a Guide Dog. Which is a hell of a lot of money, and Guide Dogs is in no way supported by the Government. It gets all of it’s funding through donations.
Guide Dogs allow both blind and visually impaired people, yes, you don’t have to be totally blind to qualify for a Guide Dog, a whole load of independence that they may not have had before.
One of the reasons I decided it was time to apply, was all of the people on my Facebook groups telling me how much a Guide Dog has helped them. Another reason has to be because of a fellow blogger who writes about her general goings on, and the life she leads with her Guide Dog.
Unfortunately, Fiona, the blogger I am on about, lost one of her Guide Dogs, well it’s her husband Peter’s, to cancer. It was a great shock. Not only for her and her husband, but to all of her readers. Not only because she had passed away, but the fact that we had read abouut her playing with her sister Guide Dog a few days ago.
Even though it was a sad and heartbreaking time, Fiona and her husband, are doing something incredible to honor her memory.
They are raising money to name a Guide Dog.
When a Guide Dog is born, the entire litter get given a name based on a letter. For example, the litter could be an L litter, therefore the puppies would be called, Luke, Lola, Lucy, Louis, etc.
Fiona and her husband, are wanting to raise £2,500 so they can name a Guide Dog Suki, which was their beloved Guide Dogs name.
It would be incredible if you could donate anything. If you would like to donate, you can either donate by texting, PFI99 and your amount you would like to donate, £1, £2, etc to 70070, or you can click here and donate online. Don’t forget to click the Gift Aid box as it will donate extra money at no extra cost.
I really hope they reach their goal, as it’s a fantastic way to keep their beloved Guide Dog’s name going.
Anything you can donate is wonderful. If you can please share with everyone you know, as the more people who share, the more people donate, and hopefully a Guide Dog who is just opening their eyes will be blessed with the wonderful name of Suki.
