If you’ve ever watched one of my #BlindGuyAdventures videos, then you’ll already know that one of my favourite hobbies is shopping, can shopping be classed as a hobby? Well whether it is or it isn’t, when I go shopping, five things generally happen, and I thought I would tell you what they are.
- I always have to pick things up and feel them.
I don’t know if it’s because i’m visually impaired, but when ever i’m out shopping, I love to walk around the store and pick things up. I think it’s just so I can visualise what they’re actually like, you know, the shape, texture, how heavy they are, etc.
2. I always end up spending a lot more time in a store than a person should.
This always happens, especially when i’m shopping in Leeds. Because I visit their store so much, all of the staff in the stores I usually visit, Lush, The Body Shop, Yorkshire Soap Company, etc, all know me and Jamie by name. This usually means that we end up having a thirty minute chat in each store.
3. When I smell things, especially in beauty stores, I can either smell all the different scents that make up their overall scent, or think they smell like the most random thing on the planet.
If i’m smelling something tropical. I can usually smell the Coconut, Pineapple, Passion Fruit, etc, as totally separate smells, and if something is a mixture of random undescriptive scents, then I usually have the most random idea of what the smell reminds me of. For example, one of the Lush moisturisers always reminds me of burning plastic, and whenever I smell Bleach, it always reminds me of wet dog, see I told you it was random.
4. I always end up in a Chocolate store.
I don’t know if it’s the idea of all that Chocolate all in one place, or just the incredible overall smell of Chocolate, but somehow I always find my way into a Chocolate store, whether it be Hotel Chocolat, Thorntons, or the newly opened Lindt store in Manchester.
5. I will always feel lost.
I know that i’m in the massive shopping centre, but I usually need to know what stores i’m near, just so I know in a round about way, where I am. For example, I know where Lush is in Leeds because I know the route by heart, not sure what that says about me haha! But if i’m outside a store I don’t know, it makes me feel like i’m the only person on a very large island, and someone has spun me round with a blindfold on, just like in a game of pin the tail on the Donkey.
That’s just five things that usually happen when I go shopping, but there’s always a lot more.
