Even though I absolutely adore my Red Cane, i’ve been meaning to replace it with something a little bit more flashy for ages, as with some of it’s Red Paintwork starting to peel off, it’s looking very tatty. That’s why when I saw that RNIB had released an Ambutech Graphite No Jab Long Cane with Red Leather Handle that claims to recoil whenever it comes into contact with an object whilst I was scrolling through their Website a couple of weeks ago, I obviously had to pick it up. Well i’ve been using it for a little while now, and I thought that I would tell you what I thought of it.

A picture of me holding my Cane.
Here’s what RNIB say about their Ambutech Graphite No-Jab Long Cane with Red Leather Handle.
This revolutionary shock-absorbing Long Cane is designed to eliminate the sharp jabs that can occur when Cane Tips get stuck, for example, in a Drain while you’re out and about.
When the Cane strikes a solid object, the Handle gently recoils approximately five inches before automatically returning to its original position. This recoiling action absorbs about 80% of the shock, eliminating the sharp jab or gouge to your Wrist or Abdomen, but without taking away from the sensitivity of the Cane.
The Sheepskin Leather Handle has a 10-inch grip and an aggressive perforation that gives an even higher level of traction and control in hot humid and or wet conditions while still affording an amazing, soft touch. It is installed on Ambutech’s best premium Graphite Shaft, which boasts the company’s revolutionary Joint Connection. This conical Joint is derived from anodized anti-corrosive Aluminium which provides a highly sensitive tactile transmission, rock solid Joints and the smoothest and most effortless separation possible.
The Centre Cord is a high-quality marine-grade Dacron Polyester Bungee. It is UV-resistant and Water-repellent, with a Tensile Strength of 68kgs, 150lbs. The Cane is fitted with the CordLock Device, which securely holds the internal Elastic in place while you change the Tip, and is supplied with a Hook-Style Ambutech Roller Marshmallow Tip.
The Dacron Polyester Bungee Cord Lanyard is especially designed with an adjustable Cord Lock that can be adjusted to fit any size Wrist, as well as securing the Cane when it is folded.
The Ambutech No Jab Graphite Folding Cane is available in 11 lengths. Two lengths available with three sections. Five lengths available with four sections. And Four lengths available with five sections.
It’s material.
I absolutely loved it’s material, as even though it was made out of Graphite, I thought that it felt incredibly strong and lightweight yet ever so slightly smooth, and was more like it was made out of a really strong and lightweight yet ever so slightly smooth painted Aluminium rather than a thick and heavy yet ever so slightly smooth Graphite. I also really liked it’s Red Leather Handle, as even though it was made from Sheepskin Leather, I thought that it felt incredibly soft and buttery yet ever so slightly thick, and was more like an incredibly soft and buttery yet ever so slightly thick Calfskin Leather rather than a thick and soft yet ever so slightly rubbery Sheepskin Leather.
Its features.
I really liked it’s features, as I really liked that it folded into five different sections as it meant that it easily fitted into any Bag that I was carrying, that it’s Cordlock Device meant that I could easily change it’s Tip without having to worry that it’s Elastic Cord was going to disappear into the Cane like some of the other Canes that i’ve used in the past have done, and that it’s Conical Joints meant that the Cane felt really secure when I had it unfolded and wouldn’t easily collapse whenever I walked into anything. The only feature that I wasn’t really a massive fan of was that it was supplied with a Hook-Style Roller Marshmallow Tip, as even though they’re a great choice for quite a lot of Cane users, because I walk quite fast and swish my Cane fairly wide, it unfortunately meant that it tended to get stuck into the Pavement when I was swishing it.
What it did when I used it.
I really liked what this did when I used it, as I really liked that it’s Red Leather Handle recoiled whenever I walked into or clipped anything with my Cane, as it meant that I didn’t end up jabbing myself in the Stomach, Rib Cage or Wrist when I was using it. I also really liked the amount of feedback that I got when I was swishing it, as because of it’s really strong and lightweight material and it’s Conical Joints, it meant that I instantly knew whenever the Paving had change or I had come into contact with something that shouldn’t have been there.
It’s packaging.
I really liked it’s packaging, as this came packaged in a really thick and secure Plastic Bag that kept the Cane really safe and secure until it had arrived.
My overall thoughts.
Overall I would have to rate the RNIB Ambutech Graphite No Jab Long Cane with Red Leather Handle an eight point five out of ten. I absolutely loved it’s incredibly strong and lightweight yet ever so slightly smooth material, it’s Handles incredibly soft and buttery yet ever so slightly thick material, it’s features, what it did when I used it, and it’s packaging, but I just wish that I was able to choose the type of Cane Tip that it came with, as although a Hook-Style Roller Marshmallow Tip is a great Tip for most Cane users, it isn’t the best for me. I also wish that I was able to choose the colour that it came in, as even though White is a fantastic colour for a Cane, I really miss having a totally Red Cane that matches most of what I wear.
