Last week, both me and Jamie went to see Grease The Musical at the Alhambra Bradford, and after having an amazing time, I thought that I would tell you all about it.

What happened when I went to see Grease The Musical at the Alhambra Bradford.

Once we had finally arrived in Bradford, and had done a little bit of Shopping, we eventually headed to the Alhambra Bradford, which is located next door to Bradford Live on Morely Street in Bradford City Centre.
Then once we had walked through the Accessibility Entrance Doors by the side of the massive building, we were very kindly greeted by a really nice Woman who said hi and took our Tickets. We said hi back and asked if it would be possible for someone to show us to our Seats as neither of us can see very well in the dark, and after handing us our Tickets back, she said of course and showed us to some really comfy Seats that were right in the middle of the Front Row opposite the Stage..
Then after we had gotten comfy and had been chatting for about ten or so minutes, a really loud recording of a Radio DJ with a very thick American accent welcomed us to the show and reminded us to turn our Phones off before the show eventually started.

What I thought of the Show.

It’s opening.

I really liked that they opened the show with Miss Lynch introducing Patty and Eugene at Graduation and them giving a speech before cutting to a flashback of everyone being in the Lunchroom on the first day of School, as I thought that it introduced us to most of the characters that we would see throughout the show.

I really liked everyone’s performances, as I thought that they all embodied the mix of people that you would probably find at an American High School in the mid-seventies, from the very cool and confident Danny who struggles to show his emotions for fear of being ridiculed, to the very naive and sheltered Sandy who can’t believe why Danny is treating her so poorly, to the very rebellious Rizzo who does what she wants when she wants despite the consequences, to the very macho Kenickie who just wants to show off his Car and sleep around, to the very deluded Frenchie who thinks that Beauty School will be the answer to all of her problems, to the very shy and nervous Rump who’s just trying to fit in with the rest of the gang, to the very smart Martie who just wants to be friends with everyone, and even the very jaded Miss Lynch who is trying to make sure none of them make the same mistakes that she did.
I also really liked the chemistry between everyone, as I really believed that Danny and Sandy had feelings for one another despite it not always ending well, that Rizzo really hated Sandy despite them basically being two sides of the same Coin, that Danny, Kenickie and the rest of the Burger Palace Boys actually really liked Rump despite them constantly poking fun at him, that Frenchie really wanted to look out for Sandy, and that Miss Lynch saw a lot of herself in Patty and wanted to help her.
I also really liked everyone’s accents, as with this being set in Chicago everyone had to talk in a very thick Midwestern accent, and I thought that everybody pulled it off seamlessly.

The Songs.

I absolutely loved all of the songs, as I thought that they were all performed beautifully, especially some of my favourites including Summer Nights, Greased Lightnin’, Look At Me I’m Sandra Dee, Born To Hand Jive, Beauty School Dropout, There Are Worse Things I could Do, and We Go Together. But the one that really stuck in my Mind definitely had to be Hopelessly Devoted To You, as it showed just how brilliantly Hope Dawe could sing. I did however think that a few songs should have been a bit longer though, as for some strange reason both Or Sandy and There Are Worse Things I could Do sounded incredibly rushed.

The Story.

I really liked the story of Danny and Sandy finally getting together despite all of the false starts, Frenchie both starting and dropping out of Beauty School, Kenickie and Rizzo thinking that they’re pregnant after one stupid night before finding out that they aren’t, and Jan and Rump finally realising that they like each other.
The only thing that I didn’t really like about the story was the random interruptions from Vince Fontaine every now and then, as even though they were supposed to break up the story and the show to allow for Scene and Costume changes, I thought that it made the entire show feel really clunky.
Even though it was called a High School Drama Musical, it did have a few sad moments in it, including when Sandy thinks Danny has been making fun of her, and when Sandy is sat at Home crying over how much she misses Danny.

My overall thoughts.

Overall I would have to rate Grease The Musical an eight point five out of ten. I absolutely loved it and thought that it was a fantastic show that had some dramatic, some funny, and some sad parts to it that was performed brilliantly. The only things that I didn’t really like about it was that it contained quite a few visual only sequences, which with me being Visually Impaired kind of passed me by, and the random Radio interruptions from Vince Fontaine as I thought that it kind of made parts of the show feel clunky. But other than that, I thought that it was a brilliant show that I highly recommend everyone go see whilst they still can.
