A couple of weeks ago, both Jamie and I went to see Mean Girls The Musical at the Alhambra Bradford, and after having a fantastic time, I thought that I would tell you all about it.

What happened when I went to see Mean Girls The Musical at the Alhambra Bradford?
Once we had finally arrived in Bradford, and had been for something to eat, we eventually headed to the Alhambra Bradford, which is located next door to Bradford Live on Morley Street in Bradford City Centre..
Then once we had walked through the Accessibility Entrance Doors by the side of the massive building, we were very kindly greeted by a really nice Man who said hi and took our Tickets. We said hi back and asked if it would be possible for someone to show us to our Seats as neither of us can see very well in the dark, and after handing us our Tickets back, he passed us over to a really friendly lady who showed us to some really comfy Seats that were right in the middle of the Front Row opposite the Stage..
Then after we had gotten comfy and had been chatting for about ten or so minutes, a really loud recording of Tina Fey welcomed us to the show and said not to record the Show as it had already been recorded as well as reminding us to turn our Phones off before the show eventually started.
What I thought of the Show.
It’s opening.
I really liked that they opened the Show with both Damian and Janis talking to the audience about High School Social Survival before transitioning into a really rocky version of A Cautionary Tale, as I thought that it introduced us to quite a few of the Characters that we would see throughout the Show.
Everyone’s performances.
I really liked everyone’s performances, as I thought that they all embodied all of the people that you would probably find at an Illinois High School, from the very flamboyant Damian who just wants to help Cady find her place, to the slightly standoffish Janis who just wants to bring Regina down no matter the cost, to the slightly naïve Cady who just wants to find her place in the Social Hierarchy, to the self-centred Regina who just wants everyone to do as she says, to the very manic and insecure Gretchen who just can’t figure out why Regina doesn’t really like her, and even the slightly downtrodden Karen who just wants to be loved.
I also really liked the chemistry between everyone, as I really believed that both Damian and Janis had been friends for years, that both Damian and Janis were trying to help Cady succeed, that Regina was the Queen Bee and that both Gretchen and Karen were just her loyal minions, that everyone kind of feared Gretchen as she knew all of their secrets, and that Cady and Karen were really close despite them being really different.
I also really liked everyone’s accents, as with this being set in Illinois everyone had to talk in a fairly thick Mid-Western accent, and I thought that everyone pulled it off seamlessly.
The Songs.
I absolutely loved all of the songs, as I thought that they were all performed beautifully, Especially A Cautionary Tale, It Roars, Meet The Plastics, Apex Predator, Sexy, Revenge Party, More Is Better, Someone Gets Hurt Reprise, and World Burn. But some of the one’s that really stuck in my Mind definitely had to be What’s Wrong With Me?, Someone Gets Hurt, What’s Wrong With Me? Reprise, and I See Stars, as I thought that it showed just how brilliantly some of the Cast could sing.
The story.
I really liked the story of Cady moving from Kenya to become more sociable, Damian and Janis taking Cady under their Wing and helping her to thrive, Cady becoming friends with Regina, Gretchen and Karen to bring Regina down, whether or not Cady and Aaron would finally confess their feelings for one another, Cady finally realising that she has become exactly what she despises, and Ms Norbury getting her revenge on Cady by making her become a Mathlete.
Even though it was called a Musical Comedy, it did contain quite a few sad moments, including when Damian, Janis and Aaron rejected Cady because she had become just like Regina, and when Regina realises that she’s no longer Queen Bee and hasn’t been invited to the Party.
I also really liked that they represented one of the Movie’s most pivotal scenes where Regina gets hit by a Bus with a very loud, Floor-shaking Beat, as even though it did feel a little bit cheesy, I thought that it was the perfect way to recreate the scene for a Stage Performance.
My overall thoughts.
Overall I would have to rate Mean Girls The Musical an eight point five out of ten. I absolutely loved it, and thought that it was a fantastic Show that had some dramatic, some funny, and some sad moments to it that was performed brilliantly. The only thing that I didn’t really like about it was that it contained quite a few visual only sequences, which with me being Visually Impaired kind of passed me by. I would also have just liked to have seen a few more scenes from the Original Movie to tie everything together.
