Last week, both me and Jamie went to see Six the Musical at the Leeds Grand Theatre, and after having a fantastic time, I thought that I would tell you all about it.

What happened when I went to see Six the Musical at the Leeds Grand Theatre.
Once we had finally arrived in Leeds, and had been for a few Drinks, we eventually headed to the Leeds Grand Theatre, which is located behind Homesense on Upper Briggate in Leeds City Centre.
Then once we had arrived, we were very kindly greeted by a really nice Staff Member who said hi and asked us if we were here to see the show. We said hi back, and that yes we were, and after a couple of seconds of him checking our Tickets and our Bags, he said that he hoped we enjoyed the show and that we could head on in. Then once we had walked into the beautiful Foyer, we were very kindly greeted by another really nice Staff Member who said hi and asked us if we were ok,. We said hi back and that yes we were but that we were just a little bit disorientated as we hadn’t been here before, and after a couple of seconds of us chatting, she very kindly asked us if we would like her to show us to our Seats to which we of course said yes. She then asked me if I would like to take her Arm, to which I of course said yes to, and after a little bit of weaving around the massive Theatre and a little bit of confusion, as my Tickets had been marked as me needing a Wheelchair, she showed us to some really comfy Seats that were opposite the Stage.
Then after we had gotten comfy, had been chatting for about ten or so minutes and had been trying to figure out what Songs they had reworked into a Tudor Lute style version, a really loud recording of a Woman with a very regal accent welcomed us to the show and reminded us to turn off our Phones before the show eventually started.
What I thought of the show.
It’s opening.
I really liked that they opened the show with a base filled version of Ex-Wives, as I thought that it instantly set the scene for the entire show and very quickly introduced us to all of the characters.
Everyone’s performances.
I really liked everyone’s performances, as I thought that they all embodied the mix of the Women that Henry VIII was married to, from Catherine of Aragon who refused to be pushed aside, to Jane Seymore who laments the fact that she wasn’t around to see her Son grow up, and even Catherine Parr who only married him to survive.
I also really liked the chemistry between everyone, as I really believed that Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn despised each other and were fighting to be head of the Band, that Jane Seynore and Catherine Parr sympathised with each other, and that everyone really championed the fact that Anne of Cleaves managed to not get beheaded.
I also really liked everyone’s accents, as with everyone technically being from the Tudor Era they had to sound slightly regal, although I did really like that some of them had a slight Yorkshire twang, that Catherine of Aragon had a very strong Birmingham accent, and that Catherine Parr’s accent was a little bit deeper than all of the rest of the Cast to make her stand out.
The songs.
I absolutely loved all of the Songs as I thought that they were all performed beautifully, especially some of my favourites including Ex-Wives, No Way, Don’t Lose Your Head, Get Down, All You Wanna Do, and Six. But the ones that really stuck in my Mind definitely had to be Heart of Stone and I Don’t Need Your Love, as they were both incredibly emotional and showed just how brilliantly both Erin Caldwell and Aoife Haakenson can sing.
The story.
I really liked the story of Catherine of Aragon being annoyed that she was replaced by a younger Woman, that Anne Boleyn is always trying to force her way to be the Queen of the Band, that Jane Seymore can’t get over dying, that Anne of Cleaves is her own Woman, that Katherine Howard is incredibly vain and tongue-in-cheek, and that Catherine Parr had to marry Henry the VIII simply to survive despite not being in love with him.
Even though it was called a Musical, it was actually a Concert with a story in the middle of it and was loaded with really funny moments, including all of the Queens being really bitchy to one another so that they could become Queen of the Band. I also really liked the moment near the end where Catherine Parr points out to them all that they really don’t need to be fighting and they all team up to give one hell of an end of the Show performance.
My overall thoughts.
Overall I would have to rate Six the Musical a nine point five out of ten. I absolutely loved it and thought that it was a fantastic show that had some funny, some dramatic and some sad parts to it as well as some killer songs that was performed brilliantly. The only thing that I didn’t particularly like about it though was that it contained quite a few visually only sequences, which with me being Visually Impaired kind of passed me by. But other than that I thought that it was a brilliant show that I highly recommend everyone go see whilst they still can.
Then once the show had finally finished, wee grabbed our Bags and headed off back into Leeds to catch our Bus.
