With all of the Cold Weather that we’ve been having, plus all of the Central Heating and me being a little bit more stressed out than usual, my Lips have become incredibly dry, rough and cracked lately, which means that i’ve been on the lookout for anything that will return them to their usually silky smooth, soothed and hydrated former-feeling self. That’s why when I had heard that The Ordinary had released a PHA 5% Exfoliating Lip Serum that claims to leave you with silky smooth, soothed and hydrated Lips, I obviously had to hop on to their Website and pick it up. Well i’ve been using it for a little while now, and I thought that I would tell you what I thought of it.

A gentle Chemical-Based Lip Exfoliator with 5% Polyhydroxy Acid, Gluconolactone, to smooth and hydrate Lips.
Our PHA 5% Exfoliating Lip Serum is a gentle Chemical-Based Exfoliator for Lips with 5% Gluconolactone and 1.5% Alpha Hydroxy Acids to smooth and hydrate Lips. Gluconolactone is a Polyhydroxy Acid, PHA, that works to dissolve the structures that hold Dead Skin Cells together. Due to their larger molecular weight, PHAs work on the surface of the Skin to offer mild exfoliation, making them suitable for Sensitive Skin.
This formulation also includes a high concentration, 50%, of Glycerin to improve hydration and retain moisture as well as Ectoin to support the Skin Barrier and offer long-term hydration. It also contains a Black Carrot Extract which is known for its Antioxidant properties and provides a mild Pink colour to the formulation. How to use.
1. Apply a thin layer on to clean, dry Lips on alternate evenings as needed.
2. Allow the product to dry.
3. Apply Lip Balm as needed throughout the day.
It’s taste.
I wasn’t really a massive fan of it’s taste, as even though it contained Glycerin, Water, Gluconolactone, Ectoin, Carrot Juice, Citric Acid, Malic Acid, Tartaric Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Xanthan Gum, Potassium Sorbate, and Sodium Benzoate, I thought that it had a very strange deep and metallic yet ever so slightly fruity Berry taste to it that kind of reminded me of if someone had soaked some freshly picked Berries in some Rainwater that had come from a Metal Rainwater Barrel.
It’s consistency.
I really liked it’s consistency, as even though it was called a Lip Serum, I thought that it felt incredibly thick and gelatinous yet ever so slightly watery, and was more like an incredibly thick and gelatinous yet ever so slightly watery Shower Gel rather than a thin and watery yet ever so slightly oily Lip Serum.
What it did when I used it.
I really liked what this did when I used it, as once I had started to massage a little bit of it into my Lips, it turned from an incredibly thick and gelatinous yet ever so slightly watery Shower Gel into a thin and watery yet ever so slightly gelatinous Lip Serum that sank into my Skin within a matter of seconds.
It’s results.
I absolutely loved it’s results, as not only did this leave my Lips feeling incredibly silky smooth, soft, refreshed, plump, bouncy and intensely hydrated, but it also left them looking extremely glowing, radiant, a lot shinier and much healthier for at least an entire 24 hours after I had used it.
It’s packaging.
I wasn’t really a massive fan of it’s packaging, as even though this came in a short cylindrical Glass Bottle with a Rubber Pipette Lid that looked beautiful sat on my Beauty Shelves, with it being a Lip Serum I found it incredibly weird to pour some of it into my Hand and then massage it into my Lips, and would have preferred it if it had come in some kind of a Tube with a Doe Foot Applicator or in some kind of Glass Bottle with a Rollerball Applicator.
My overall thoughts.
Overall I would have to rate The Ordinary PHA 5% Exfoliating Lip Serum an eight out of ten. I absolutely loved it’s incredibly thick and gelatinous yet ever so slightly watery consistency, what it did when I used it, and it’s results, but I just wasn’t a massive fan of it’s very strange deep and metallic yet ever so slightly fruity Berry taste. I also wish that it was available in some kind of a Plastic Tube with a Doe Foot Applicator or in some kind of a Glass Bottle with a Rollerball Applicator so that it was a little bit easier to use.
