One of the main reasons that I started using The Ordinary’s range of Skincare was that as well as them being ridiculously affordable, they also offered some really cool and quirky, usually one ingredient-lead, formulations. That’s why when I saw that they had released a Rice Lipids + Ectoin Microemulsion that claims to be an ultra- lightweight Moisturising Serum that offers up to 24 hours soothing hydration whilst I was scrolling through their Website a couple of weeks ago, I obviously had to pick it up. Well i’ve been using it for a little while now, and I thought that I would tell you what I thought of it.

It’s scent.
I wasn’t really a massive fan of it’s scent, as even though it contained Water, Rice Lipids, Jojoba Seed Oil, Ectoin, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Propanediol, Glycerin, Japan Wax Fruit Wax, Glyceryl Glucoside, Sodium Hyaluronate, Allantoin, Urea, Serine, Alanine, Glycine, Glutamic Acid, Lysine HCL, Threonine, Argenine, Proline, PCA, Sodium PCA, Xylityl Glucoside, Anhydroxylitol, Xylitol, Fructose, Glucose, Maltose, Trehalose, Betaine, Pentylene Glycol, Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, Hydroxyacetophenone, Tocopherol, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Lactate, Sodium Citrate, Citric Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Isoceteth-20, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, 1,2-Hexanediol, Ethylhexyl Glycerin, Phenoxyethanol, and Chlorphenesin, I thought that it had a very strange deep and metallic yet ever so slightly zesty Rust scent to it that kind of reminded me of if someone had accidentally left a piece of Metal out in the Rain.
It’s consistency.
I really liked it’s consistency, as even though it was called a Microemulsion, I thought that it felt incredibly thick and gelatinous yet ever so slightly watery, and was more like an incredibly thick and gelatinous yet ever so slightly watery Cleansing Gel rather than a thin and creamy yet ever so slightly gelatinous Microemulsion.
What it did when I used it.
I really liked what this did when I used it, as once I had started to massage a little bit of it into my Skin, it turned from an incredibly thick and gelatinous yet ever so slightly watery Cleansing Gel into a thin and watery yet ever so slightly gelatinous Hyaluronic Acid Serum that sank into my Skin within a matter of seconds.
It’s results.
I absolutely loved it’s results, as not only did this leave my Skin feeling incredibly silky soft, smooth, soothed, calm, refreshed, plump, bouncy, moisturised and intensely hydrated, but it also left it looking extremely glowing, radiant, a little bit younger and much healthier for hours after I had used it. I also really liked that it didn’t manage to irritate the Patches of Eczema that I get underneath my Eyes.
It’s packaging.
I wasn’t really a massive fan of it’s packaging, as even though this came in a tall cylindrical Glass Bottle with a Rubber Pipette Lid that looked beautiful sat on my Beauty Shelves, for some strange reason it’s Rubber Pipette Lid was incredibly difficult to unscrew from it’s Bottle.
My overall thoughts.
Overall I would have to rate The Ordinary Rice Lipids + Ectoin Microemulsion a nine out of ten. I absolutely loved it’s incredibly thick and gelatinous yet ever so slightly watery consistency, what it did when I used it, and it’s results, but I just wasn’t a massive fan of it’s very strange deep and metallic yet ever so slightly zesty Rust scent. I also wish that it was available in some kind of a Bottle with a Pump Lid so that it was a little bit easier to use.
