With me being Visually Impaired, my Hearing is obviously very important to me as it’s how I navigate the World around me. Unfortunately though, I tend to end up getting an Ear Infection at least two or three times a year no matter how careful I am, and after suffering from them for years, I thought that I would tell you five of the things that I do to avoid getting an Ear Infection.
Anyway, that’s enough of me rambling, here’s five things I do to avoid getting an Ear Infection.

1. Make sure that I regularly clean my Ears.
I try to keep my Ears pretty clean anyway, but I tend to step it up a gear and clean them every two to three days when I notice the symptoms of me getting an Ear Infection are starting to happen, such as trouble hearing, my Ears popping, and me becoming more prone to dizzy spells. The logic is that if I can catch the symptoms early enough, then I won’t have to make a Doctor’s Appointment and be prescribed a dose of those dreaded Ear Drops that actually make me feel even dizzier than I already do.
2. Make sure that I regularly clean my Headphones and Ear Plugs.
I love Music, and usually use it to drowned out all of the other noises that go on in my House like the Dogs barking, technology whirling, and people snoring. This means that i’m forever using a pair of Headphones and with them constantly going in and out of my Ears, they need to be kept as clean as possible, so at least once a week I quickly run some kind of Anti-Bacterial Cleaning Wipe over them. I also use a pair of Ear Plugs whilst i’m sleeping, as I tend to get woken up very easily and like to clean them at least once a week too by pouring a little bit of Anti-Bacterial Hand Sanitiser into the Palm of my Hands, rolling them around in it, and leaving them somewhere to dry. I do use a pair of Memory Foam Ear Plugs though as they’re much more comfortable than regular ones so i’m not sure if this would also work for any kind of other Ear Plugs.
3. Make sure that I keep my Ears dry.
I can’t stand the feeling of Water being anywhere near my Ears anyway, so this one is actually pretty easy to do. But i’ve found that Water when i’m washing my Hair going in my Ears is the main cause of most of my Ear Infections, so I try as hard as I possibly can to make sure that any Water doesn’t go in my Ears whilst i’m washing my Hair.
4. Make sure that I keep my Ears warm.
I don’t like wearing a Hat whilst i’m out and about as it interferes with me being able to listen out for the Traffic when i’m trying to cross the Road with my Cane. But i’ve noticed that whenever I can feel an Ear Infection coming, that keeping my Ears as warm as I possibly can by wearing some kind of thin Beanie helps to slow it down a little.
5. Have a professional Ear Wax Removal Treatment.
I usually perform some kind of Ear Wax Removal Treatment by myself if I think that I have a considerable amount of Ear Wax to remove, I tend to do it myself as I was taught how to do it by my local Pharmacist a couple of years ago. But if my Ears have been feeling sore or irritated I tend to get it done professionally by somewhere like Auris Ear Care as they have a team of professional and qualified Ear, Nose and Throat Doctors and specialist Nurses who know what they’re doing without causing me too much pain or discomfort.
This post was in collaboration with Auris Ear Care, but all thoughts, opinions, and general ramblings are my own.
There you go, that’s the five things that I do to avoid getting an Ear Infection.
