I absolutely love anything that tastes of Black Forest Gateaux, especially at Christmas, whether that’s an actual Black Forest Gateaux, a Black Forest Gateaux Hot Chocolate, or some kind of Black Forest Gateaux Liqueur. That’s why when I had heard that Hotel Chocolat had released a Black Forest Gateau Velvetised Cream that claims to taste just like you’re drinking a Vodka-soaked Black Forest Gateau, I obviously had to pop down to my local Hotel Chocolat store and pick it up. Well i’ve been drinking it for a little while now, and I thought that I would tell you what I thought of it.

If you’re a fan of the heavenly flavours in homemade Black Forest Gateau, you’ll adore our Black Forest Gateau Velvetised Cream. This is a Vodka-based Tipple with a truly sumptuous twist. Cherries, Chocolate, Cream. Oh, and a dash of Vodka! In our books, it’s a dream combination. We’re particularly proud of this one.

We’ve taken the flavours of Black and Morello Cherries and melded them with Dark Chocolate, White Chocolate, Vodka, and real Cream to create a truly luxurious Beverage. Embrace rich flavours from our high-Cacao Chocolate, the smoothest texture from Velvetised Cream, and subtly tangy and sweet notes from real Cherries.

It’s the flavours of Black Forest Gateau, bottled. Serve straight over Ice for an instant hit of rich Chocolate Cream and tart Cherry. Or, if you fancy getting creative, experiment with adding a dash to your favourite Cocktails.

It’s taste.

I absolutely loved it’s taste, as even though it contained 12% Vodka, Cream, Dark Chocolate, White Chocolate, Black Cherries, and Morello Cherries, I thought that it had a delicious deep and chocolatey yet ever so slightly fruity and boozy Black Forest Gateaux taste to it that kind of reminded me of if someone had blended up an entire Vodka-soaked Black Forest Gateaux into a massive Tub of Double Cream.

It’s texture.

I really liked it’s texture, as even though it was called a Velvetised Cream Liqueur, I thought that it felt incredibly thin and creamy yet ever so slightly watery, and was more like an incredibly thin and creamy yet ever so slightly watery Single Cream rather than a thick and heavy yet ever so slightly creamy Velvetised Cream Liqueur.

It’s packaging.

I really liked it’s packaging, as this came in a tall cylindrical Glass Bottle with a screw top Lid that looked beautiful sat on my Kitchen Cabinet.

My overall thoughts.

Overall I would have to rate the Hotel Chocolat Black Forest Gateaux Velvetised Cream a nine out of ten. I absolutely loved it’s delicious deep and chocolatey yet ever so slightly fruity and boozy Black Forest Gateaux taste, it’s texture, and it’s packaging, but I just wish that it was available in a much bigger Bottle, `as you really don’t get that many Glasses out of a 50cl Bottle of Cream Liqueur. I also just can’t justify spending £23 on a Bottle of Cream Liqueur, as I think that there are a lot of other Cream Liqueurs currently on the market that taste just as nice for a lot less money.
