One of my main problems with Lush’s Skincare range, apart from it not containing any Active Ingredients, like Hyaluronic Acid, Niacinamide, or Vitamin C, definitely has to be that it unfortunately doesn’t last as long as traditional Skincare does and usually has to be kept in the Fridge to stop it from going off. That’s why when they very kindly asked me if I would like to try some of their Self-Preserving Skincare range, I of course said yes. Well i’ve been using it for a little while now, and I thought that I would tell you what I thought of it.

Here’s what Lush say about all three amazing products.

The Ultrabland Self-Preserving Cleanser.

Ultra simple and effective.

What’s in it for you?

Based on a, nearly, 2000-year old recipe from Ancient Greek Physician Galen, our legendary Almond Oil-based Cleanser is incredibly gentle but incredibly effective at removing every speck of Dirt and Make-Up from your Face. Now we’ve gone one further and made it even milder by taking out the Artificial Preservatives. What’s in it for the World?

Beekeepers from the Barro Vermelho community in Brazil prioritise Bee welfare, minimal intervention and Land regeneration, while Rose Absolute and Rose Water made from Damask Roses grown in Senir, Turkey, preserve traditional Rose-harvesting techniques and offer Syrian refugees fairly paid employment. By choosing this self-preserving formula, you are also removing preservatives that could bioaccumulate in our Water Systems from production.

How to use.

Take about two forefingers’ full and massage between your Fingers and Palms, then gently sweep over your Cheeks, Forehead, Chin and around your Nose. Dampen a clean Face Cloth in Warm Water and glide over your Face to remove all residue of Dirt and Makeup for soft, glowing Skin. To remove Eye Makeup, gently massage a little on to your Lashes and around the delicate Eye Area and use a clean, damp, Reusable Cotton Pad to remove.

The Ocean Salt Self-Preserving Face & Body Scrub.

Exfoliating and refreshing.

Instant radiance, achieved the good old-fashioned way. If you’re using a Chemical Exfoliant, try this cult Self-Preserving Skin-Cleanser instead. We’ve packed it with a bounty of beautiful ingredients to get your Skin Barrier in peak condition and removed the artificial preservatives into the bargain.
Ideal for complexions that feel shiny or dull, a blend of Fine and Hand-Harvested Sea Salt provides medium to strong buffing action to stimulate Skin Cell turnover and deeply cleanse away Dirt and Pollution. How to use.

Using a Physical Exfoliator allows you to tailor the intensity of your Scrub so that it suits your Skin perfectly and you don’t go too far. Apply generously to Damp Skin using a circular motion, rinse away and follow up with a good Moisturiser.

The Enzymion Self-Preserving Moisturiser.

Brightening, light and self-preserving.

How to use.

A light touch for Skin which needs an easily absorbed Moisturiser, think softened and dewy. After Cleansing take a little on the Fingertips and pat gently on to the Face. Oily areas benefit. The Fresh Fruit in this Moisturiser contain Enzymes and Alpha Hydroxy Acids to remove Dead Skin Cells and help to stimulate and brighten your Skin.

What is Self-Preserved?

Our Skin is home to helpful Microflora that defend against invading Bacterial Pathogens. At Lush we use minimal preservatives in our products when we have to, and over the decades have been working hard to remove preservatives from products wherever we can.
Made from Butters, Oils and Essential Oils without preservatives, the new Self-Preserving Face Moisturisers have a slightly richer formula and are just as effective with all the goodness. They are best used fresh, within 6 months.

The Lush Ultrabland Self-Preserving Cleanser.

It’s scent.

I wasn’t really a massive fan of it’s scent, as even though it contained Almond Oil, Beeswax, Honey, Water, Rose Water, Fresh Iris Extracted In Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Glycerine, Glyceryl Stearate, Tincture Of Benzoin, Benzyl Alcohol, Benzyl Benzoate, and Benzyl Cinnamate, I thought that it had a very deep and nutty yet ever so slightly creamy Sesame Seed scent to it that kind of reminded me of the scent you smell whenever you open a massive Bottle of Sesame Seed Oil.

It’s consistency.

I really liked it’s consistency, as even though it was called a Cleanser, I thought that it felt incredibly thick and balmy yet ever so slightly creamy, and was more like an incredibly thick and balmy yet ever so slightly creamy Body Butter rather than a thin and creamy yet ever so slightly balmy Cleanser.

What it did when I used it.

I really liked what this did when I used it, as once I had started to massage a little bit of it into my Skin, it turned from an incredibly thick and balmy yet ever so slightly creamy Body Butter into a thick and creamy yet ever so slightly balmy Cleanser that spread really easily across my Face.

It’s results.

I absolutely loved it’s results, as not only did this leave my Skin feeling incredibly squeaky clean, silky soft, smooth, plump, bouncy, hydrated and intensely moisturised, but it also left it looking extremely glowing, radiant and much healthier for hours after I had used it.

It’s packaging.

I really liked it’s packaging, as this came in a short cylindrical Black Plastic Tub with a screw top Lid that looked beautiful sat on my Beauty Shelves.

The Lush Ocean Salt Self-Preserving Face & Body Scrub.

It’s scent.

I absolutely loved it’s scent, as even though it contained Fine Sea Salt, Hand Harvested Sea Salt, Fresh Grapefruit Infusion, Organic Silken Tofu, Glycerine, Japan Wax, Sodium Cocoamphoacetate, Fresh Lime Extracted In Vodka, Mango Butter, Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, Avocado Butter, Lime Oil, Seaweed Absolute, Violet Leaf Absolute, Citral, Limonene, Linalool, Fragrance, and Colour 42090, I thought that it had a delicious fresh and zesty yet ever so slightly oceanic Vodka, Lime and Salt scent to it that kind of reminded me of drinking a Vodka Body Shot on a very raucous night out.

It’s consistency.

I really liked it’s consistency, as even though it was called a Face & Body Scrub, I thought that it felt incredibly thick and gelatinous yet ever so slightly gritty, and was more like an incredibly thick and gelatinous Shower Gel with little pieces of Sea Salt in it rather than a thin and balmy yet ever so slightly gritty Face & Body Scrub.

What it did when I used it.

I really liked what this did when I used it, as once I had started to massage a little bit of it into my Skin, it turned from an incredibly thick and gelatinous Shower Gel with little pieces of Sea Salt in it into a thin and watery yet ever so slightly creamy Shower Gel with little pieces of Sea Salt in it that spread really easily across my Face & Body.

It’s results.

I absolutely loved it’s results, as not only did this leave my Skin feeling incredibly silky smooth, squeaky clean, soft, plump, bouncy and intensely hydrated, but it also left it looking extremely glowing, radiant, a little bit brighter and much healthier for hours after I had used it.

It’s packaging.

I wasn’t really a massive fan of it’s packaging, as even though this came in a short cylindrical Black Plastic Tub with a screw top Lid that looked beautiful sat on my Beauty Shelves, because it contained both Fine Sea Salt and Hand Harvested Sea Salt, I found that quite a lot of Salt got caught in it’s Lid making it’s Lid very hard to close after you had used it.

The Lush Enzymion Moisturiser.

It’s scent.

I wasn’t really a massive fan of it’s scent, as even though it contained Fresh Lemon Infusion, Organic Jojoba Oil, Glycerine, Fair Trade Organic Cocoa Butter, Stearic Acid, Fragrance, Propylene Glycol, Organic Avocado Oil, Organic Cold-Pressed Evening Primrose Oil, Almond Oil, Water, Wheatgerm Oil, Triethanolamine, Tangerine Oil, Lime Oil, Fresh Aloe Vera Gel, Freshly Juiced Lemon, Freshly Juiced Papaya, Cetearyl Alcohol, Citral, Citronellol, Limonene, and Linalool, I thought that it had a very strange deep and musky yet ever so slightly zesty Orange scent to it that kind of reminded me of if someone had soaked a popped Balloon in a massive Glass of Fresh Orange Juice.

It’s consistency.

I really liked it’s consistency, as even though it was called a Moisturiser, I thought that it felt incredibly thick and gloopy yet ever so slightly oily, and was more like an incredibly thick and gloopy yet ever so slightly oily Face Mask rather than a thin and creamy yet ever so slightly oily Moisturiser.

What it did when I used it.

I really liked what this did when I used it, as once I had started to massage a little bit of it into my Skin, it turned from an incredibly thick and gloopy yet ever so slightly oily Face Mask into a thin and oily yet ever so slightly creamy Moisturiser that sank into my Skin within a matter of seconds.

It’s results.

I really liked it’s results, as not only did this leave my Skin feeling incredibly silky soft, smooth, plump, bouncy, hydrated and intensely moisturised, but it also left it looking extremely glowing, radiant, a lot brighter and much healthier for hours after I had used it.

It’s packaging.

I really liked it’s packaging, as this came in a short cylindrical Black Plastic Tub with a screw top Lid that looked beautiful sat on my Beauty Shelves.

My overall thoughts.

Overall I would have to rate the Lush Ultrabland Self-Preserving Cleanser an eight out of ten, the Lush Ocean Salt Self-Preserving Face & Body Scrub a nine out of ten, and the Lush Enzymion Self-Preserving Moisturiser an eight out of ten. I really liked the Lush Ultrabland Self-Preserving Cleanser, as I absolutely loved it’s incredibly thick and balmy yet ever so slightly creamy consistency, what it did when I used it, it’s results, and it’s packaging, but I just wasn’t a massive fan of it’s very strange deep and nutty yet ever so slightly creamy Sesame scent. I really liked the Lush Ocean Salt Self-Preserving Face & Body Scrub, as I absolutely loved it’s delicious fresh and zesty yet ever so slightly oceanic Vodka, Lime and Salt scent, it’s consistency, what it did when I used it, and it’s results, but I just wasn’t a massive fan of it’s packaging, as I would have preferred it if it had come in some kind of Jar with a Metal Lever rather than a Plastic Tub with a screw top Lid. I really liked the Lush Enzymion Self-Preserving Moisturiser, as I absolutely loved it’s incredibly thick and gloopy yet ever so slightly oily consistency, what it did when I used it, it’s results, and it’s packaging, but I just wasn’t a massive fan of it’s very strange deep and musky yet ever so slightly zesty Orange scent.
