The Hemi God Of Hydrated Skin | The Ordinary 100% Plant-Derived Hemi-Squalane

One of my favourite products from The Ordinary, definitely has to be their 100% Plant-Derived Squalane. That’s why when I had heard that they had released a 100% Plant-Derived Hemi-Squalane that claims to be much lighter, I obviously had to give it a go. Well i’ve been using it for a little while now, and I thought that I would tell you what I thought of it.

A short cylindrical brown glass bottle with a white pipette lid and a white label that has The Ordinary written in bold black writing and 100% Plant-Derived Hemi-Squalane written in smaller bold black writing on it, on a white background.

Here’s what The Ordinary say about their 100% Plant-Derived Hemi-Squalane.

Hemi-Squalane is a non-polar hydrocarbon that’s produced from the fermentation of sugar-based feedstock. Squalane and Hemi-Squalane are both excellent non-comedogenic emollients that can help to reduce the ongoing loss of hydration that weakens dermal elasticity and suppleness. However, due to its low molecular weight, Hemi-Squalane has a greater spreadability and leaves a light and dry after-feel, making it very suitable for reducing hair frizz.

Note.

The 100% Plant-Derived Hemi-Squalane used in our product is USDA Certified Bio-Based.

It’s scent.

I wasn’t really a massive fan of it’s scent, as even though it contained Isoparaffin, I thought that it had a very strange deep and musky yet ever so slightly nutty scent to it that kind of reminded me of wet Cardboard.

It’s consistency.

I really liked it’s consistency, as even though it was called a Facial Serum, I thought that it felt really thin and watery, and was more like a thin and watery Micellar Water rather than a thin and balmy yet ever so slightly oily Facial Serum.

What it did when I used it.

I really liked what this did when I used it, as once I had started to massage a little bit of it into my Skin, it turned from a thin and watery Micellar Water into a thin and oily yet ever so slightly balmy Facial Serum that set within a matter of seconds. I did however notice that it more or less instantly absorbed into my Hands if I didn’t massage it into my Skin straight away though.

It’s results.

I absolutely loved it’s results, as not only did this leave my Face feeling incredibly silky soft, supple, hydrated and bouncy, but it also left it looking extremely glowing and radiant for a good couple of hours after I had used it.

It’s packaging.

I really liked it’s packaging, as this came in a short cylindrical Glass Bottle with a Pipette Lid that looked beautiful sat on my Beauty Shelves.

My overall thoughts.

Overall I would have to rate The Ordinary 100% Plant-Derived Hemi-Squalane a nine out of ten. I absolutely loved it’s thin and watery consistency, what it did when I used it, it’s results, and it’s packaging, but I just wasn’t a massive fan of it’s strange deep and musky yet ever so slightly nutty scent.
