As some of you probably already know, last year I made it one of my goals to grow a Beard. Well after having it for a little while now, some of you have asked me how I take care of it, so I thought that I would tell you how I keep it looking, feeling and smelling it’s best.
Washing.
The first thing that I do is wash it with a good quality Beard Shampoo. I usually only do this once a week, as i’ve found that doing it more than once tends to dry out both my Beard and Moustache. I mainly do this to keep it clean, but it also keeps any dandruff at bay, and doesn’t completely strip my Beard of some of the natural oils that keeps it looking shiny and soft on a daily basis. I’m currently loving the Admiral Grooming Soothing Beard Wash with Avocado extract and the Men Rock Sicilian Lime & Caffeine Beard Shampoo, as they both smell incredible and create a really thick lather.
Conditioning.
Once i’ve washed both my Beard and Moustache, I leave it to air dry for about five or so minutes before applying a liberal amount of Beard Balm. I do this mainly because even though i’ve washed it and it’s all nice and clean, like the Hair on my Head, it needs to be conditioned to make it look shiny and feel soft. I’m currently loving the Admiral Grooming Conditioning Deluxe Beard Balm and the Men Rock Sicilian Lime & Caffeine Beard Balm, as they both smell incredible and make both my Beard and Moustache feel extremely soft.
Brushing.
Once i’ve washed and conditioned my Beard and Moustache and have left it to dry for a little while, I give it a thorough brush. I mainly do this to not only keep it looking neat and tidy, but it also encourages all of the Hairs to grow downwards instead of all over the place. I use two different brushes to do this depending on how long my Beard and Moustache is. When it’s really long and I can tell that it needs a trim, I use the Men Rock Beard Comb, and when it’s extremely short or i’ve just had it trimmed, I use The Body Shop Brow & Lash Brush & Comb as it’s great at getting at all of the incredibly short hairs that the other comb just can’t catch.
Hydration.
Once my Beard and Moustache has completely dried, I apply a liberal amount of Beard Oil and use one of my Brushes to comb it through. I do this mainly because it not only makes my Beard look shiny, but it also moisturises the skin underneath and around my Beard and Moustache, meaning that my Beard doesn’t feel itchy. I’m currently loving the Admiral Grooming Nourishing Beard Oil with Olive extract and the ThatchFace Got Wood Beard Oil, as they both smell incredible and leave both my Beard and Moustache feeling extremely soft.
Styling.
Then once i’ve finished applying a liberal amount of Beard Oil, I apply a good amount of Moustache Wax to my Moustache and use both my fingers and The Body Shop Brow & Lash Brush & Comb to work it through the Hairs and style it. I mainly do this because as well as keeping my Moustache in place for most of the day, depending on what Moustache Wax I use it also conditions it a little bit too. I’m currently loving the Men Rock Sandalwood Moustache Wax, as once i’ve applied some, my Moustache doesn’t move a millimetre all day.
There you go, that’s everything that I do to take care of my Beard and Moustache on a daily and weekly basis.
There’s something else that I do a little less frequently though, and that’s trimming.
trimming.
I don’t do this every week, but it does need to be done every so often. I mainly do this because as well as making my Beard and Moustache look neat and tidy, it also keeps it looking symmetrical and gets rid of any split ends that I may have. I will either trim my Beard and Moustache myself using a pair of Superdrug Straight Nail Scissors. Now this isn’t the recommended tool for trimming a Beard or Moustache, but being Visually Impaired, I need something that doesn’t have a long blade to it so that I can move it easily and wont cut something that I shouldn’t. I also go for it professionally trimmed and shaped every so often at one of my favourite Barbers, No.3 Gentleman’s Hairdressing, as it means that I can make sure that it looks it’s best with a minimal amount of effort.
There you go, that’s everything that I do to keep my Beard and Moustache looking, feeling and smelling it’s best.
