One of my favourite Skincare Brands at the moment definitely has to be Garnier, as i’ve been absolutely loving all of the new and affordable products that they’ve been releasing lately, especially their Facial Serums, like their Aloe Hyaluronic Replumping Super Serum and their Vitamin C Anti-Dark Spot & Brightening Serum. That’s why when I saw that they had released a Skin Active 4% AHA + BHA & Niacinamide Charcoal Serum that claims to leave you with mattified, resurfaced and brighter looking Skin whilst I was out Shopping a couple of weeks ago, I obviously had to pick it up. Well i’ve been using it for a little while now, and I thought that I would tell you what I thought of it.

Here’s what Garnier say about their Skin Active 4% AHA + BHA & Niacinamide Charcoal Serum.
Introducing our 1st Charcoal Serum for Blemish-prone Skin. Also suitable for Acne-prone Skin. Formulated with 4% AHA + BHA and Niacinamide, our Serum visibly reduces Blemishes, improves the appearance of residual marks, and helps to resurface Skin for smoother and more even-looking Skin. This scientifically-proven formula helps mattify and visibly smooth Skin texture. Our formula is trusted by our board of Dermatologists and is suitable for all Skin types: even Sensitive Skin!
The Science behind the Serum.
Our Serum is enriched with powerful Active Ingredients, including AHA + BHA, Salicylic Acid, and NIACINAMIDE. The formula helps reduce the appearance of Blemishes and Pores, and after 1 use Skin is left deeply purified & mattified.
AHA is known to exfoliate dull & uneven Skin.
BHA, Salicylic Acid, helps to reduce the appearance of Blemishes and size of Pores.
Niacinamide is known to soothe skin and reduce discomfort.
Charcoal is a natural origin ingredient known for it’s purifying properties and helps to mattify Skin.
Our Serum has a Vegan formula, containing no Animal-derived ingredients or by-products. All Garnier products globally are officially approved by Cruelty Free International under the Leaping Bunny Programme, the leading organisation working to end Animal Testing worldwide, and the recognised Cruelty Free Gold Standard. Both the Box and Bottle are recyclable, and the Box is made of FSC-approved Cardboard.
How to use.
Apply to a clean Face and gently smooth into Skin. Use morning and evening as a daily Serum, or as a targeted Treatment on Spots and Blemishes.
It’s scent.
I absolutely loved it’s scent, as even though it contained Water, Alcohol Denat, Niacinamide, Glycerin, Propanediol, Sodium Hydroxide, Charcoal Powder, Hydroxyacetophenone, Hydroxyethylpiperazine Ethane Sulfonic Acid, Hydroxypropyl Guar, Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside, Citric Acid, Lactic Acid, Phytic Acid, Polyglycerin-10, Polyglyceryl-10 Myristate, Polyglyceryl-10 stearate, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Salicylic Acid, Fragrance, CI 17200, CI 19140, and CI 42090, I thought that it had a delicious fresh and watery yet ever so slightly musky Cucumber and Charcoal scent to it that kind of reminded me of if someone had crumbled up some Charcoal Briquettes into a massive Jug of Cucumber infused Water.
It’s consistency.
I really liked it’s consistency, as even though it was called a Charcoal Facial Serum, I thought that it felt incredibly thick and gelatinous yet ever so slightly watery, and was more like an incredibly thick and gelatinous yet ever so slightly watery Hyaluronic Acid Serum rather than a thin and watery yet ever so slightly balmy Charcoal Facial Serum.
What it did when I used it.
I really liked what this did when I used it, as once I had started to massage a little bit of it into my Skin, it turned from an incredibly thick and gelatinous yet ever so slightly watery Hyaluronic Acid Serum into a thin and watery yet ever so slightly gelatinous Charcoal Facial Serum that sank into my Skin within a matter of seconds.
It’s results.
I absolutely loved it’s results, as not only did this leave my Skin feeling incredibly silky soft, smooth, matte, plump, bouncy and intensely hydrated, but it also left it looking extremely glowing, radiant, clear, a little bit brighter and much healthier for hours after I had used it.
It’s packaging.
I really liked it’s packaging, as this came in a short rounded cylindrical Glass Bottle with a Rubber Pipette Lid that looked beautiful sat on my Beauty Shelves.
My overall thoughts.
Overall I would have to rate the Garnier Skin Active 4% AHA + BHA & Niacinamide Charcoal Serum a nine out of ten. I absolutely loved it’s delicious fresh and watery yet ever so slightly musky Cucumber and Charcoal scent, it’s consistency, what it did when I used it, it’s results, and it’s packaging, but I just wish that it had contained some other Exfoliating Acids like Glycolic Acid, Mandelic Acid, or maybe even Tartaric Acid to give my Skin an even deeper amount of exfoliation. I also wish that it had come in a much bigger Bottle, as 30ml of a Facial Serum doesn’t really last that long, especially if you’re using it twice a day like you’re supposed to do.
