From Darkness To Light | Lush York Relaunch

A couple of weeks ago, both me and Jamie were very kindly invited down to Lush York to come and check out their newly refurbished store, and after having an amazing evening checking everything out, I thought that I would tell you all about it.

A black store front with a large glass window, some black boards, and a sign that has Lush written in large white writing and fresh handmade cosmetics written in smaller white writing on it, on a bright background.

What happened when I visited Lush York.

Once we had eventually arrived in York, we walked over one of the many Bridges that are dotted around the City Centre, and eventually arrived at Lush York, which is located on Coney Street opposite the Starbucks in York City Centre.

Once we had walked into the spacious and newly decorated store, we were both very kindly greeted by a really nice woman, who said hi, and asked us our names. We said that we were Luke and Jamie, and after a second or so of her checking her guest list, she said to go on through and grab ourselves a drink. We were then greeted by another really nice woman who said hi, and asked us if we would like a drink, to which we both of course said yes. She then said that there were two to choose from, a really nice Blackcurrant and Elderflower Juice or a lovely fresh Orange Juice, and after a second or so of us deciding what to have, we both went for the Blackcurrant and Elderflower Juice as we thought that it sounded really nice, and with our drinks in hand, we started to wander around the store and check everything out.

Then after a couple of minutes of us wandering around and checking everything out, the really nice manager gathered us all around her and started to introduce herself, the rest of the wonderful team, and tell us a little bit about what would be happening throughout the evening, including that there would be a few demonstrations of some of Lush’s latest releases. She then said that they were holding a little Instagram competition, where we could win one of Lush’s amazing gift sets, and after us all taking our pictures, we wandered around for a minute or two before she gathered us all around her again, and one of the other staff members started to tell us all about Lush’s Gourmet Soaps.

Some half circles of bright Pink coloured soap stacked on top of each other with one covered in bright white paper that has Lush written all over it, on a dark background.

She told us that there were currently only two fragrances available, Rose Argan and Olive Tree, and that they’re both full of skin nourishing and softening ingredients that are all sourced through SLush, Lush’s ethical sourcing program, and then she passed a block of each fragrance around for us all to smell and feel. Then after a minute or two, she asked me and Jamie if we would like to give the Rose Argan Gourmet Soap a little try, to which we both of course said yes, and she started to give us both a little hand massage using the incredibly squishy soap.

I’m not usually a massive fan of Lush’sRose Argan range, as I tend to find that it smells incredibly sickly sweet, but I actually quite liked this, as all of the skin softening ingredients had muted it a little. I also loved that this left my hand and arm feeling incredibly soft.

Then once we had both finished our massages, we just wandered around for a little while, before another one of the friendly staff members gathered us all around her, and started to tell us all about the Yellow Submarine Bath Bomb. She said that it contains Brazilian Orange Oil and Coriander Oil, and that it also floats around the bath for a few minutes before dissolving to create gorgeous feeling water, that will leave your skin feeling silky soft. She then passed a bowl around with one in for us all to have a smell and feel of.

I really liked it’s smell, and thought that the water felt incredibly silky, but I don’t think that it had totally dissolved, as I got my hand absolutely covered in powder.

Some grey bath bombs with a prickly spot design all over them in a rectangular light wooden box, on a dark background.

Then once she had finished demonstrating the Yellow Submarine Bath Bomb, another one of the really nice staff member started to tell us all about the Metamorphosis Bath Bomb, and how it contains Black Pepper Oil, Cinnamon Leaf Oil, and Myrrh Resinoid to give it it’s deep spicy scent, and that it also changes colour when it’s in the bath. She then again passed around a bowl for us all to have a smell and feel of.

I definitely think that this had to be one of my favourite smells of the entire night, as it just smelt so masculine and spicy. I also loved that the water left my hand feeling incredibly soft.

Some bright yellow blocks of moisturiser in the shape of some Bees with some grey stripes on them and some yellow dots for eyes in a square light wooden box, on a light background.

Then after a couple more minutes of us both wandering around and checking out their new haircare area, another really nice staff member gathered us all around her, and started to tell us all about the Scrubee Body Butter, including that it’s both a scrub and a body butter, and that it contains Honey and Cocoa Butter to moisturise the skin, and Ground Coconut Shells and Almonds to give the skin a light scrub. She then passed one around for us all to smell and have a try of.

Even though I did think that it smelt incredibly sweet, I did actually quite like it, and i’ll definitely be picking one of these gorgeous looking Body Butters up very soon.

Then once she had finished demonstrating the Scrubee Body Butter, another friendly staff member started to tell us all about the Sleepy Body Lotion, including that it contains an Oatmeal infusion, Lavender Flower, Lavender Water, and Cocoa Butter, to moisturise the skin, and leave it smelling incredible. She then passed a little tub around for us all to have a smell and try of.

I’m not usually a massive fan of Lavender scents, but I actually didn’t mind this too much, as it had a very muted scent to it. I also liked that it left my hands feeling and smelling incredible for the rest of the night.

Then after all of the demonstrations had finished, we just wandered around and checked out a few more of their new areas, including their face care area and their fragrance area, before a really nice staff member asked Jamie if he would like a personalised skincare consultation, to which he of course said yes. We then went off to one of the tables where she started to ask him a few things about his skin, including his skin type, and his current skincare routine, before going off and bringing back a few products for Jamie to try on his hand.

Then once Jamie had finished his skincare consultation, we just wandered around for a little while longer before deciding that it was time to head off. So I went to the check out to pay for the Stairway To Heaven Soap and Sugar Daddy-O Solid Conditioner Bar that I had picked up during the evening, but as I was finishing paying, the really nice staff member behind the till gave both me and Jamie a massive goodie bag, which contained a Yellow Submarine Bath Bomb, a Metamorphosis Bath Bomb, a tub of Sleepy Body Lotion, and a bottle of Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster Mouthwash Tabs. We then said our goodbye’s and thank you’s to all of the amazing staff, and headed off back into York to catch our train.

I had an absolutely amazing evening checking out the newly refurbished Lush York store, and if you haven’t already, I highly recommend that you pop in and say hi.

I would just like to thank Lush York for having both me and Jamie, and for hosting such a fantastic evening.
