Even though i’ve never been a massive fan of Lush’s Skincare, I do quite like some of their Haircare range, including their Big Shampoo, their Daddy-O Shampoo, and their Shampoo Bars. That’s why when I had heard that they had released a Haircare 2023 range that claims to contain the reincarnation of my beloved Daddy-O Pressed Conditioner, I obviously had to pop down to my local Lush store and check everything out. Well after giving everything a good sniff, I eventually picked up a Tub of Rehab Salty Shampoo, a Tub of Swell Shampoo, a Tub of Tofu Cream Shampoo, and a Tub of Violet Cream Conditioner, and I thought that I would tell you what I thought of them.
Here’s what Lush say about all four amazing products.
The Rehab Salty Shampoo.
Renew, restore, refresh!
Don’t in-salt your Hair, restore and refresh it from root to tip with a minty-fresh, enzymic cleanse. Fresh Kiwi, Pineapple and Mango Juices break down Dirt and Oil, while Hand-Harvested Coarse Sea Salt and Menthol Crystals invigorate your Scalp. Rehab Salty’s the ultimate reset button.
Why choose Rehab Salty?
Pineapples, Papayas, Mangos, and Kiwis all contain Enzymes that dissolve and remove Dead Skin Cells, creating a powerfully exfoliating effect in this Shampoo that leaves your Scalp and Hair cleansed and shiny.
Scent.
A refreshing herbal helping of Peppermint, Lavender, and Rosemary Oils, with fruity undertones.
How to use.
Scoop and lather on to wet Hair, rinse and condition as usual. Use twice for the ultimate refresh.
The Swell Shampoo.
Seek Kelp with volume and shine.
Breezy Beach Day Hair in a Pot, this scrubby, volumising Shampoo of Sea Salt, Seaweed, and Patchouli will bring Sunshine to dull Hair.
Why choose Swell?
Hand-Harvested Coarse Sea Salt supersizes flat Hair by making individual Strands feel thicker, while a Bladderwrack Seaweed and Sugar Kelp Mucilage makes it gleam, brightening both your Hair and your day! Stimulating Menthol Crystals help to contribute to this refreshing wash. It’s like a dip in the Ocean.
Scent.
Depths of fresh, bracing Sea Salt and Seaweed, with waves of menthol.
How to use.
Scoop and lather onto wet Hair, rinse and condition as usual. Use twice for maximum volume and shine!
The Tofu Cream Shampoo.
Restorative, rich, and shine-enhancing.
Vegan Protein? No whey! Give your Hair a break from breakage with this SLS-free Shampoo, made with Protein-rich Silken Tofu to restore the strength of processed Hair.
Why choose Tofu?
This soft, creamy Shampoo of Agave Syrup and shine-enhancing Rice Vinegar will revive your Strands from Root to tip, while superstar Silken Tofu restores the strength of processed Hair. Containing a high Protein content and heaps of Vitamins to restore the natural lustre of your Hair, Tofu Shampoo gives body and that ‘fresh-out-of-the-Salon’ feel with just one wash.
Scent.
A perfectly balanced bouquet of fresh green notes and grounding mossy undertones. Tofu shares its scent with Pansy Perfume and The Olive Branch Shower Gel.
How to use.
A little goes a long way. Scoop a small amount of this pillowy-soft Shampoo into your Fingertips before pressing it on to your Roots, work in circular movements to create a creamy lather that leaves your Hair delicately scented. Rinse off and apply your favourite Conditioner. Keep the Lid on between uses.
The Violet Cream Conditioner.
Goodby brassy tones, hello platinum shine!
Brassy Hair stopping you from having more fun? This gloss-giving Toning Conditioner is packed with Fresh Lemon Juice, Cold Pressed Raspberry Seed Oil, and a Purple Potato Decoction to give platinum shine and banish brass. Pair this moisturising Conditioner with our beloved Daddy-O Shampoo for the ultimate brass-defying duo, that share the same fragrance!
Why choose Violet Cream?
The vibrant Violet colouring interacts with Yellow Tones and cancels them out, revealing fresh brass-free Hair. A thick base of Sorbitol and Glycerine help to keep your Hair lightly moisturised, while also lifting and swelling the Cuticle, resulting in fuller, thicker Strands.
Scent.
Inhale sweet powdery purple Violet Flowers. Violet Leaf Absolute, Rose Absolute, and Bergamot Oil combine for a scent that stays on your Hair throughout the day.
How to use.
Work a dollop through freshly shampooed Hair. This is deliberately pigmented so careful where you whip it. Rinse from your Hair and surfaces immediately.

Its scent.
I absolutely loved it’s scent, as even though it contained Hand-Harvested Course Sea Salt, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Water, Fragrance, Propylene Glycol, Fresh Papaya Juice, Lauryl Betaine, Fresh Pineapple Juice, Fresh Kiwi Juice, Carrageenan Extract, Lavender Oil, Peppermint Oil, Rosemary Oil, Juniperberry Oil, Menthol Crystals, Organic Jojoba Oil, Fresh Mango Juice, Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Almond Oil, Benzyl Alcohol;, Limonene, and Linalool, I thought that it had a delicious fresh and minty yet ever so slightly fruity Peppermint scent to it that kind of reminded me of a Stick of Wrigley’s Double Mint Chewing Gum.
It’s consistency.
I really liked it’s consistency, as even though it was called a Shampoo, I thought that it felt incredibly thick and gritty yet ever so slightly gelatinous, and was more like an incredibly thick and gritty yet ever so slightly gelatinous Scalp Scrub rather than a thin and watery yet ever so slightly gelatinous Shampoo.
What it did when I used it.
I really liked what this did when I used it, as once I had started to massage a little bit of it into my Hair, it turned from an incredibly thick and gritty yet ever so slightly gelatinous Scalp Scrub into a thick and frothy Shampoo with little pieces of Sea Salt in it that spread really easily through my Hair. I also really liked that because it contained so much Sea Salt that it gave my Scalp a very light but gritty scrub whilst I was massaging it into my Hair, and that because it contained Menthol Crystals that it created a really nice cooling sensation whenever I rinsed it out.
It’s results.
I absolutely loved it’s results, as not only did this leave my Hair and Scalp feeling incredibly squeaky clean, silky soft, smooth, thicker, fuller, plump, bouncy and intensely hydrated, but it also left my Hair looking extremely bolumised, a lot shinier and much healthier for hours after I had used it.
It’s packaging.
I really liked its packaging, as this came in a tall cylindrical Black Plastic Tub with a screw top Lid that looked beautiful sat on my Beauty Shelves.

I wasn’t really a massive fan of it’s scent, as even though it contained Hand-Harvested Coarse Sea Salt, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Toothed Wrack Seaweed Bladderwrack Seaweed & Sugar Kelp Mucilage, Propylene Glycol, Lauryl Betaine, Ho Wood Oil, Petitgraine Oil, Dark Sumatran Patchouli Oil, Ylang Ylang Oil, Menthol Crystals, Avocado Butter, Olive Butter, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Coumarin, Hydroxycitronellol, Limonene, Linalool, and Fragrance, I thought that it had a very overpowering deep and woody yet ever so slightly Ho Wood and Patchouli scent to it that kind of reminded me of the scent of some very strong Leather Polish.

I really liked it’s scent, as even though it contained Meadowsweet Infusion, Silken Tofu, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Glycerine, Organic Agave Syrup, Grape Juice, Witch Hazel Extract, Water, Fragrance, Angelica Root Oil, Orris Oil, Fennel Oil, Lemon Myrtle Oil, Rice Vinegar, Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Polyquaternium-81, Cetrimonium Chloride, Salicylic Acid, Citral, Coumarin, Geraniol, and Limonene, I thought that it had a very subtile fresh and zesty yet ever so slightly grassy Lemon Myrtle and Olive Oil scent to it that kind of reminded me of walking through an Olive Grove on a boiling hot Summer’s Day.
It’s consistency.
I really liked it’s consistency, as even though it was called a Cream Shampoo, I thought that it felt incredibly thick and gloopy yet ever so slightly oily, and was more like an incredibly thick and gloopy yet ever so slightly oily Cleansing Balm rather than a thick and creamy yet ever so slightly balmy Cream Shampoo.
What it did when I used it.
I really liked what this did when I used it, as once I had started to massage a little bit of it into my Hair, it turned from an incredibly thick and gloopy yet ever so slightly oily Cleansing Balm into a thin and oily yet ever so slightly frothy Hair Serum that spread really easily through my Hair.
It’s results.
I wasn’t really a massive fan of it’s results, as even though this left my Hair looking extremely volumised, a lot shinier and much healthier, I found that it also left it feeling incredibly dry, rough, brittle and ever so slightly sticky for hours after I had used it. So much so that I had to wash it again the next morning just to make it feel a little bit like it’s silky soft, smooth, bouncy and hydrated feeling former self.

My overall thoughts.
Overall I would have to rate the Lush Rehab Salty Shampoo a nine out of ten, the Lush Swell Shampoo an eight out of ten, the Lush Tofu Cream Shampoo a five out of ten, and the Lush Violet Cream Conditioner a nine out of ten. I really liked the Lush Rehab Salty Shampoo, as I absolutely loved it’s delicious fresh and minty yet ever so slightly fruity Peppermint scent, it’s consistency, what it did when I used it, it’s results, and it’s packaging, but I just wish that it was available in a much smaller Tub. I really liked the Lush Swell Shampoo, as I absolutely loved it’s incredibly thick and gritty yet ever so slightly gelatinous consistency, what it did when I used it, it’s results, and it’s packaging, but I just wasn’t a massive fan of it’s very overpowering deep and woody yet ever so slightly zesty Ho Wood and Patchouli scent. I really liked the Lush Tofu Cream shampoo, as I absolutely loved it’s very subtile fresh and zesty yet ever so slightly grassy Lemon Myrtle and Olive Oil scent, it’s consistency, what it did when I used it, and it’s packaging, but I just wasn’t a massive fan of that it managed to make my Hair feel so dry, rough and brittle whenever I used it. I really liked the Lush Violet Cream Conditioner, as I absolutely loved it’s delicious sweet and floral yet ever so slightly grassy Violet scent, it’s consistency, what it did when I used it, it’s results, and it’s packaging, but I unfortunately found that it managed to stain my Hands, my Bath, and my Shower bright Purple every time that I used it.
