After trying and loving the Bird & Blend Tea Company London Fog Loose Leaf Tea, I thought that it was about time that I tried some other Teas that also contained Pepper in some way, shape or form. That’s why when Jamie saw that they had released a Newcastle Tea On The Tyne loose Leaf Tea that claims to pay tribute to the towering Angel of the North as part of their Store Blend collection whilst he was visiting his partner in Newcastle a couple of weeks ago, I obviously asked him to pick it up for me. Well i’ve been drinking it for a little while now, and I thought that I would tell you what I thought of it.

Here’s what Bird & Blend Tea Company say about their Newcastle Tea On The Tyne loose Leaf Tea.
Bird & Blend Tea Company has officially arrived in the landmark city of Newcastle! Our store blend is a smoky black tea paying tribute to the towering Angel of the North. This smoky breakfast blend is inspired by the coal mine at the foot of the Angel of the North, with red peppercorns that call to mind the rusty red colour of the angel.
As one of our Store Blends 50% of all Profits from sales of this Blend will go to our Newcastle store’s chosen chariTEA Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter.
- Tastes like, Smokey, Strong.
- Black Tea, Medium Caffeine.
It’s brewing time.
It said that you were supposed to brew this for four minutes at 100ºC, which I thought was the perfect amount of time, as whenever I brewed it for any less I thought that it tasted incredibly weak and basically just tasted of really sweet Water, and that whenever I brewed it for any longer that it tasted extremely sour and just tasted of Kenyan Black Tea. It also said that you were supposed to brew this for six hours in Cold Water if you wanted to Cold Brew it, which I thought was the perfect amount of time, as whenever I brewed it for any less I couldn’t really taste any of the Red Peppercorns, and that whenever I brewed it for any longer all i could really taste was the Sri Lankan Black Tea.
It’s taste.
I was actually a little bit disappointed by it’s taste, as even though it contained Chinese Black Tea, Kenyan Black Tea, Sri Lankan Black Tea, and Red Peppercorns, I thought that it had a delicious deep and smokey yet ever so slightly creamy Black Tea taste to it that kind of reminded me of if someone had dropped a few drops of Semi-Skimmed Milk into a really strong Cup of Black Tea.
It’s packaging.
I really liked it’s packaging, as this came in a massive rectangular resealable Paper Pouch which meant that all of the Tea Leaves stayed extremely fresh and didn’t lose any of their delicious flavour.
My overall thoughts.
Overall I would have to rate the Bird & Blend Tea Company Newcastle Tea On The Tyne loose Leaf Tea a six out of ten. I absolutely loved it’s brewing time, it’s delicious deep and smokey yet ever so slightly creamy Black Tea taste, and it’s packaging, but given that it contained Red Peppercorns, it would have been nice if I had actually been able to taste them instead of just being able to taste the Chinese, Kenyan and Sri Lankan Black Teas. I do however think that it would be great if it was also available as a Teabag though, as it did make for a really nice Morning Cup Of Tea, and it would be great if I didn’t have to go through the rigmarole of making a Cup of Loose Leaf Tea when I was still half asleep.
